  • Synchron Player, High CPU, and stuttering

    Hi there,

I bought Smart Orchestra a month ago and I keep having issues with the CPU continually maxing out at 100% with a lot of associated stuttering and snap, pop, and crackle through the speakers.  Is anyone else having these issues?  I have a one year old iMac and 40GB of memory so the hardware shouldn't be a problem.

         Thanks

                Thorsteinn

  • I have the same issues on my macbook and Logic pro X , the CPU is always at its maximum and continuous pops and ticks whenever I press a key. (with all buffer sizes options even 1024) .

This is really annoying and making the instrument useless.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi,

Please install the latest Synchron Player software, it has a built-in disk speed measurement that will adjust your PRELOAD size to your disk speed. This should help a lot.

Also, increasing the latency will help.

  • Thanks Paul !

Unfortunately, I just installed it and it didn't show any improvement .

But when I tried to run it via VEP6 this morning, the CPU came down to the usual and I can now use it normally.

I am not sure if it's a Logic pro X issue but I don't have any other DAW to compare with.

  • Hi F.,

Hm, interesting... Thank goodness there is Vienna Ensemble :-)

    Thanks for the update!

  • Hi,

I have an Intel i7 6700k 64gb ram and the library is installed on a ssd and i have

the same problems with stuttering etc. Its not playable,

    greetings

  • Hi Tobias,

How is your SSD connected and how is it formatted? ExFat will perform VERY bad, you should switch to NTFS (Win) or macOS format.

  • For the pianos it helps to increase the preload size higher then the Synchron Player recommendation.
Also check your system latency with LatencyMon. Maybe you need to tweak the system latency.
These two things solved my problems with stuttering.

  • I’m struggling too - same issue. I’d assumed I needed anew computer, but some of you have already got lots of ram etc, and still have problems. So What’s the minimum spec to make synconised dimension strings run properly then?

  • Same problem here, Synchron steinway has a big problem with CPU usage :

    SSD 580 PRO 256GB ntfs / Win 10 x64 / Intel i5 4670K  3.40GHz / 16Go Ram

I use several VST whitout problem : VSL imperial / Garritan CFX / synthogy american concert D...

  • Same problem here unfortunately. Core i7-2600 @ 3.7Ghz, 8Gb RAM (16Gb extra coming this Thursday, although the GUI shows 0.6Gb in use, not sure how to raise that). It is currently unusable. Not sure how VEP6 would help; that is only working with VI instruments, not Synchron, right?

Synchron Player -> Configuration -> Database -> Increase the Preload Size

  • Same problem on iMac M1 16 GB Ram;

Stutters, pops, dropped samples and CPU overs on Synchron Player v197; Vienna Synchron Harp v79

Played with Latency settings and Engine Default Preload Size .... no change. Nothing else running on computer.

  •

This happens for me in Logic only because it uses 1 core per channel strip, and the Synchron Player uses sometimes (depending on the preset) many mics, so it stresses the cpu very quickly.

Solution is using one mic per synchron player (very inefficient) or use VEP7 which makes it basically multiproc.

At least this is my experience

  • Hi

I have no problem with my MacBook Pro 64 GB 4TB

Can you have a look to the Activity Monitor

Check if Swap used is = to 0

I use VI and Synchron payer, not VE
