  • Follow up question about the Vienna Key Protection Plan

I have a few follow up questions about the protection plan.  In the past when you bought a new Vienna Key it came with a two-year warranty which I believe covered loss, damage, or product failure.  Is that now gone?  Do you have to buy the protection plan to get that same protection on a new key?

I’m asking because the price of a new key is only € 24.  However, the protection plan is € 70 for two years which seem unusually expensive.  I’m a little confused about the change. Please let me know if the key alone still comes with protection as in the past.

    Thanks,

    Mike Coyle

  • Hi Michael,

The hardware warranty of 2 years is still valid, just like before.

  • Hi Paul, By hardware warranty do you mean that it only protects the key if the key itself goes bad. In other words it does not protect you against loss, or damage? I’m trying to figure out what will be the best option for me right now. If the hardware warranty literally only covers the Vienna Key malfunctioning I guess that would not be enough. Another issue that I’m having is that I’m currently working with a musician who is handicapped and is not able to travel so I need to work at his studio. I have taken a second PC of mine so that I can use my samples but I have to take the Vienna key each time. Is there anyway that you can allow anyone to purchase more than one active key at a time? This would be very convenient as I have at least one time forgotten to take the key with me! If I’m interpreting what you’re saying properly it sounds like the warranty on a new key still exists but it would only cover the key if it were to go bad. If you want to protect yourself against damage or loss of a key the protection plan would probably be the best way to go. Is that the case? I have one last question and I hope you understand why I am asking and are not offended. I guess I’m wondering why a protection plan is necessary if you have all of the records of people who have purchased samples and other software from VI. As you know the samples themselves are quite expensive for most musicians so to have to pay extra for a protection plan is no small matter. Why do you require that if you clearly have all of our registration information and purchase information from the past? Thanks again, Mike Coyle Hi Michael, The hardware warranty of 2 years is still valid, just like before. Best,Paul[/quote]

  • Hi Michael,

The ViennaKey hardware warranty indeed only covers the ViennaKey malfunctioning, within the 2-year warranty of a ViennaKey.
Here's an overview of what happens when a ViennaKey is lost, stolen or broken, with and without the Vienna Protection Plan:

The idea of the Protection Plan is to spread the risk of loss, theft and defect of a ViennaKey, as this way we can offer a fair price of €70 (€35 per year) to protect yourself against these risks.
As for the additional license question, please contact us at sales@vsl.co.at and we can offer you to purchase an additional license at a reduced rate.
