  • [SOLVED] SY Power Drums, midi files & slave computer

A little question about Power Drums : having SY drums on a slave computer (VEpro6), will the midi files dropping (to Cubase i.e.) work the same way, once copied from slave to master computer, I mean 1 file/3 tracks?

Furthermore, can we directly drag a midi file from Synchron Player to a desktop window as well, and can you please tell me where's the midi folder located? Thanks!

    Alain

  • Hi Alain,

Yes, MIDI stays MIDI, the file will contain 3 tracks and you can drag the MIDI file from the MIDI Player to the desktop (or any other folder, also networked folders... hint!).

    Hope that helps!

  • Great, thank you!

That's what I used to do in the past with RMX, having networked folders on slave & master computer's desktop and dragging the midi file to Cubase then.

  • Here's a little tip for easily sending a Power Drums midi file to master computer with VEpro and W10.

    First, a one time process:
1- Create a networked folder on master computer, shortcut on desktop.
2- Create another shortcut to this folder on slave computer's desktop.
3- Still on slave computer, pin the shortcut to Quick Access.
4- Pin the File Explorer to taskbar if it's not.

    Here we are:
1- Have the File Explorer opened first. If it's not, just click once on File Explorer in taskbar.
2- Now, back to VEpro (but don't close the File Explorer): drag the desired midi file to File Explorer in taskbar, hold untill the windows opens. Keep on holding and drag the file to the networked folder in Quick Access (upper left column). That's it.

I tried to find some workaraound as I can't minimize the VEpro window here so as to have VEpro and networked folder opened side by side on screen. This allows to send the midi file directly from VEpro to the networked folder. Keep in mind the File Explorer has to be opened in background, it doesn't work if it's minimized or closed.

Alternatively, you can skip the Quick Access thing, just open your networked folder and have it in background. If ever you have several windows opened, dragging on File Explorer will let you choose in which folder you want to drag the midi file. Just remember you must have an opened window in background. The Quick Access allows to have the networked folder more easily available in any case.

  • That said, I can't have the 1 to 3 thing here... Dragging the 'full' makes I just get one midi file on one track. Any idea about ? Cubase 9.5 here, searched in Preferences with no success.

  • Hi,

Works just fine here. Did you check your settings in Cubase Preferences => MIDI? Maybe you have altered the default settings?

  • I tried several things but I still can't have it working: 'Auto Dissolve Format 0' checked, Destination 'Midi Tracks' in Cubase Preferences.

When importing a 'full' midi file on a track with channel set to 'any' and opening the list editor then, displayed midi channel is channel 1 for all notes. If I try to dissolve part ('Midi/Dissolve part'), 'Separate Pitches' only is available, 'Separate Channels' is greyed out, showing there's only one single channel I guess...

  • Hi,

Do you have the option to install Synchron Power Drums right on your master, just for a quick check? Or, the other way around, install a sequencer on your slave?

  • [SOLVED]
Great idea, Nuendo 7 is installed on the slave, just checked and it works as you did in the demo.

I compared Nuendo & Cubase Preferences, I had to uncheck Cubase 'Import dropped File as single Part' (indeed...). Never (intentionally) changed this but, well, it was checked... It works in Cubase now.

    Great, thank you!
