  • SE Cellos range?

I've had the special edition set for about six months, using it with Finale.  Today I noticed that the range of the "orchestral strings - cellos" for the pLeg articulation stops at C above middle C, and the keys above that on the  virtual keyboard are greyed out.  The cello range (excluding harmonics) should extend to the D and E above that, as the other articulations do.  Is this a problem with the articulation sample, or did I accidentally change something?  If the latter, how do I correct it?

    Hi Clayking,

Details about each instrument can be found in the Library Manuals of each collection.

If you are using Vienna Instruments PRO, you can also extend the range of each articulations by 2 whole-tones. I have just sent you a demo license for VI PRO, please download the software from here.

I have also attached a quick screenshot to show where to extended the range in VI PRO, for each articulation.

    Best,

  • Thanks, but you didn't really answer the question.  The PLeg cellos don't reach the limit of the natural range of the instrument (D5 on the Ensemble virtual keyboard) as the other articulations do.  You're advising me to use demo software to be able to play D5?  Shouldn't the sample be corrected?

  • Hi Clayking.

Just wanted to offer a solution for this specific situation.

Sometimes the range of the solo instruments or sustains was simply not possible to capture in a satisfying way with the performance legato of a group.

Alternatively, you can of course also use the sustains.

  • Got it, thanks.  My solution was to change to the sustain.
