  • Behringer X-Touch One for CC data?

    Hi,

Is anyone currently using a Behringer X Touch One or similar device to enter CC data (expression, velocity crossfade, etc.) with the fader?  I draw my CC data in using a mouse and am looking to a more comfortable solution.  Any experiences/suggestions would be welcome!

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Hi Dave,

    I use this controller: https://iconproaudio.com/product/platform-m-plus/
It has motorfader, is compact and not that expensive compared to other similar products.
I use it primarly for mixing / volume automation, but also sometimes for CC.

For things like Expression and velocity crossfade I use the http://tecontrol.se/products/usb-midi-breath-controller

For me this workflow feels kind of natural and I am very pleased with the results. I use the mouse only to correct and adjust some parts of the CC data.

    Best, Ben

  • Thanks for this, Ben. I actually own the Tec breath controller but find it tiring to blow constantly through it when I'm working for 3-4 hours nonstop. That other device looks good but wouldn't easily be acquired here in Canada. Cheers! Dave

    Hi,

Did you check out the Hornberg Research HB-1 already? It is very exact, highly customizable with a great software interface and I really recommend it to every composer out there...

    Hi Paul,

Many thanks for your suggestion.  I looked it up and I must confess, the price shocked me, even though it looks much more robust/sophisticated than the Tec controller I already have.  Is it really worth almost 10 times the cost of the Tec controller in terms of performance?

    Cheers!

    Dave

  • Hi Dave,

The Hornbegr has a price point, but I believe it is worth it, if you are working with iit day in, day out.

The quality and the interface is great, and you can control multiple parameters (up to 4 at the same time) with different settings... I have not met a disappointed user yet.

I bought and returned one.  It was VERY noisy when used in automation or mackie mode as I recall, its been a while..  The motors were unbelievably noisy actually.  Total show stopper for me.  In CC mode it disengages the motors and they were sikly smooth for that, however the software you need to use with them to configure them also not available for mac or something at the time I tried it.  I can't remember now what you use the software to configure, but I know I didn't want to have to mess around with not being able to use them fully...and certainly the normal operating mode, was nosiy to the point of show stopper for me, it went back.

A lot of users seem to really love it though.

  • Thanks again, Paul for your followup.  I'll definitely have to consider this!

Dewdman42, I appreciate your detailed response.  I would primarily be using it for CC data and not volume automation, so the noise wouldn't bother me (unless I somehow decide to start using it that way and find the noise distracting as you did).
