  • VEP 5 compatibility

I have VEP 5.4.14074 running on 2GHz mac mini as a slave, with OS 10.8.5 on it.  Considering upgrading OS, to match my master (Pro trash can 2.7 12 core with 64 GB Ram, running 10.13.2) but can't find any info on VEP5 system requirements these days, only V6...

Anyone have info on this? Is latest 5 update compatible up to OS 10.13?

Encountering some CPU issues with Pro Tools Ultimate 2018, so would like to get latest stable version of VEP going, but want to be sure everything will work. Thanks!

Bonus Question: I set up the master/slave thing years ago, obviously, because CPU overhead demanded it.  Anybody think that with a 12-core Mac Pro with 64 GB RAM I should just migrate over to one machine? I run 3-4 instances of VEP with a fairly big template (12-16 instruments per instance).

Try going into your "MyVSL" check the "Download Archives" and you should find the last VE 5 build for OS. i use it on a Windows 8 machine and it works great.  I don't know about a Mac but dowload and try it.  If it doesn't work then unistall and reinstall VE6.

    Regarding your "Bonus Question"

Although I don't think I have as hefty a template as you I run everything on one powerful machine.  I've never worked the daisy chain method and don't want to start.  I just use VSL instruments in VE.  I don't load Kontakts or other 3rd party stuff.  My suggestion is if you can put everything on one machine then do it because you just cut the number of things that could go wrong from a billion down to only a measly million.

Do i get the Bonus prize? 🎁😊🎁😊

In MyVSL it says VE 5.4 OS X 10.6.8 build 16488.

Also, if you check the "Software Manuals" There's one for VE 5 that might have what you're looking for.

  • Thanks - was looking for the compatibility, I do see the latest build download. Manual says minimum requirements as 10.8 or later, but I was hoping for confirmation that it'll run on 10.11-10.13.   MY myvsl just shows the latest build version - says nothing about OS version, but I suppose I'll just try it and revert by time machine back up, just takes time is all.  Same with migrating to one machine, just several hours of installs to try it out, but it sounds like it should work.

BTW as for stuff going wrong, VEP has been the least of my problems, ever...VEP is the whole reason I'm even a VSL user - getting even 3-4 Kontakt instruments to play on a G5 cheese-grater was not happening, but the VEP solution using a slave was a miracle for a 3rd party VI, no less! From there the dive into the great VSL instruments and UI was a no brainer!

    Thanks for your help
