  • Ok, I want to make a start. Please advise...

I just have a couple of questions before I slap the best part of £2000 on the counter. Any advice, answers would be sincerely appreciated. Fact is, I'm a bit terrified! But...VSL products are so obviously superior so it's the way to go... if I can.

    1) Will VSL work within Reaper as a normal VST, particularly allowing me to use Reaper's Midi editor?

    2) Are there any tutorial videos around from setting up the Vienna key and using the system.

    3) Can a number of instances be used at the same time in a project?

    4) About Vienna key. These can fail so assuming I get license keys with the products bought (by email or some way) is there any mileage in buying two Vienna keys so if one does fail I can put the license numbers into the other so I can continue work asap?

    5) I'll be buying the product on a hard disk. Will that act as a back-up for recovery if my laptop blows up?

Let it be said, I'm no technical genius but get by well enough with the DAW so I know the .dlls have to be available to it. Presumably the samples can either be linked to it or go in the same folder. I'm ready for the learning curve but hope I don't receive a disk drive with no instruction to be found.

    Many thanks for any hints.

    Cheers.

  • Thank you very much. Certainly does help.

My fear is getting the samples downloaded over the air. But I'll talk about that with my local supplier.

    Again, thanks,

  • I took the plunge; started with the Special Edition 1 and its plus, and the Solo Strings.

It was scary, one download was 30Gb, but it went through without a problem. Althogether it took just under 8 hours from getting the eLicenser set up to completing the downloads.

There remains now to set it up in the DAW and the start of an interesting learning task of using these superb samples!

    Here we go.

Edit: Maybe I should mention that nowhere in the install and set-up videos I've watched did it mention I had to download a player. I wrongly assumed it would come with each collection and install itself (if finding there wasn't one already). I spent about half an hour looking for a .dll file to point my DAW at, couldn't find it, referred to the installation instructions offered by my dealer and thankfully he mentioned it.

So I came back and downloaded the player....wayhayy, all good. It plays and I can use my midi editor. It merely remains to learn how to get the best out of it!

    Hi Firefrost,

Good choice there, also with the Solo Strings!

Glad you managed to make everything work, I'll try to point out the necessity of downloading the sample player software additionally better.

Hope our video tutorials will help with the learning curve!

    Best,
    Paul
