  • Duplicate Vienna Key

Having recently started with VSL, I can't deny being a bit terrified about the Vienna Key which is pretty small, easy to lose, and vulnerable stuck out of an USB port on the laptop. Not to overlook electronic failure.

Is it possible to set up a duplicate key - like, load the activation codes on it - so that if a catastrophe occurs, I can simply use the duplicate?

I'm hoping some arrangement is possible anyway as, when the guarantee is about to run out, it seems to make sense to get a new one.

    Many thanks for your advice.

    Hello Firefrost,

Duplicating a license isn't possible, because that would be of course completely counterproductive in terms of a copy protection. However, there are two solutions:

    - If you want to be safe in case your ViennaKey fails, you could transfer your licenses to a new key to be protected by our warranty of two years. The date of the purchase of the key counts.

    - If you want to be protected additional against loss of your ViennaKey, our Vienna Protection Plan is the way to go.

    I hope that helps!

  • Thanks. It helps but isn't comforting. I hoped to buy an additional key and enter the activation codes into it - just in case. It's one of the cautions I had about the VSL system. Protection and insurance is nice but if the key fails in the middle of an orhestration - or if the guarantee is about to run out it leaves one high  and dry, or in fear.

    Cheers.

Edit: So - what happens when the guarantee runs out? Am I threatened with losing connection with the service?

  • To put it simple: If the key is under the two years hardware-warranty, it'd be necessary to send the key to us. Once the key arrived in our office, you'd get a new key, a 48h demo license to complete ongoing projects, and you'll receive the replacement licenses for free. If the key is outside the warranty you could purchase replacement licenses for EUR 20.- per license.

If the key holds a valid Vienna Protection Plan, you'd get a 50h Emergency License to complete ongoing projects and you'll receive the replacement licenses for free.

To possess an additional spare key is a good solution anyway!

  • Thank you.

Then, for me to put it simply, it looks like this protection plan is essential so I'll do it. There's a fair bit of money hanging on this for a newcomer. The price doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the system - another £65 + a spare key for two years? But it has to be borne.

Then just two final questions, then I hope not to bother you any more:

    1) If I buy an extra key, can I register it with VSL? (I will need to check that it works and this would be a way.)

    2) Where do I send my current key if it fails? I have yet to find an address on the site, here.

    Thank you for your patience.

==> Yes, you could register your key here: MyKeys

    2) Where do I send my current key if it fails? I have yet to find an address on the site, here.

==> In your case you'd have to send the broken key to our head office in Vienna

    I hope that helps!
