  • (SOLVED)Confused About Mapping In Appasionata Strings

I'm considering the Appasionata Strings during this special offer, but I'm confused about something. I have Epic Orch. 2 as a result of buying Vepro 6 (first time buyer). There, the strings are mapped across the keyboard. But as the instruments overlap in range, how do you get just violas, as opposed to cellos, or violas plus cellos? Basses in the low range are no problem, as they are below the range of the other strings (but only up to the point of Great C, where the cellos' range begins).

I'm assuming this is not the case for Synchron Appasionata Strings Full version, right? So you don't get a blend of cellos and violas in the middle of the keyboard? That's a problem with the light version. But then, it's just meant to serve as an introduction, right? to see if you like the sound and want to get the full version?

    Thanks,

    michael

Yes Michael, it's not the case for the full version. You get the Violins, Violas, Cellos and Basses sections independent and with their individual articulations and patches.

I recommend you look to the product page on the VSL web site, giving you all the detailed answers:

    https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Synchron_Package/Synchron_Appassionata_Strings

Look into the "Sample content" section, and that's it.

    cheers

  • Thank you fatis 12. I'm very undecided. Some other posts lead me to believe that Orchestral Strings would be best for me, but 335.00 for a standard Vienna string library...very tempting.

Synchron and Synchronized strings are not as detailed as the VI Orchestral Strings libraries, but they are very comprehensive and Synchron Player has a nice and powerful matrix organization structure: then it's hard to say what's better, it really depends on your very personal programming style and musical preferences, (and budget of course 😊

  • I ended up buying Synchron Appas. Strings, and I am very happy with them. I'm exploring how best to use Keyswitching, so it does not interfere with other inst's in staff view. Ghost notes; using an extra staff and then hiding it, are possibilities.

Addendum: I ended up using an extra staff for each inst just for keyswitches.
