  • (SOLVED)How To Use CC Events To Change Articulations?

Say I am on Basses, sustain, and I want to switch to fast attack? I tried the keyswitch method, which did not work. Can I use CC events instead?

    Thanks,

    Michael

  • Sure.

  • Congratulations!

On behalf the "CC Events for Articulations Governing Board,"  TFIS, myself and my imaginary friends have granted your request for using CC Events for switching articulations instead of keyswitches.  Please try to understand the awsome power at your fingertips and do not let this knowledge fall into the wrong hands.  We're depending on you.

    Well Done! You've earned it.

    But seriously...

In the basic view go to Matrix Control and to the right of "X Axis" you should see a button (I think it defaults to keyswitch I can't remember).  When you right or left click the button some options should come up and there should be one for CC controller or pitch wheel maybe but this should at least get you in the right direction.

  • Thank you. I am new to the Synchron player, so it is very unfamiliar to me. I will assume your remark was an attempt at humor, rather than sarcasm toward someone asking a dumb question. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

  • Apparently you thought I was talking about the vienna player. i was talking about the Synchron player. I thought this was obvious, since I posted the question in the Synchron section. My mistake for not making that clearer.

  • What issue were you having with keyswitches? Wouldn't be easier to solve that then reprogram everything for CC?

My apologies.  When I logged into the forum I just went straight to "LATEST POSTS" which doesn't break the posts down by the individual sections so I didn't know which section you posted in.

Yes, my remark was meant as humor not sarcasm nor condescension.  In your original post it sounded like you were asking for permission to do what you wanted to do which I found to be humorous.

    Again, sorry for the confusion.

BTW, Bill has a point.  It's always better to do keyswitches unless you're playing live or trying to do something on the fly.  Why don't you explain what issues you're having with keyswitching and maybe we can figure something out.  Keyswitching probelms are almost always caused by MIDI routing issues.

After a closer look, "LATEST POSTS" actually does break the posts down, you just have to read a little further.

No problem. It was just an understandable misunderstanding, and I misunderestimated your sense of humor.

You may have something about the midi routing. I haven't been assigning channels in Sonar for the Synchron player, as you really don't have to, as it's not multitimbral. But maybe that is the problem. I'll check it out.

  • I have it working, at least for the basses. Apparently, the reason it didn't work at first, is becasue I forgot I have the basses set an octave lower, as per the usual practice. Once I set the keyswitch note an octave higher, it worked. I have yet to try it with the violins.

Edit: Actually, I have to use the next octave up for everything. Maybe I need to adjust my keyboard settings?

I still would prefer CC events, so I'm going to try and figure out how to do that, if it is possible in Synchron. I hate having weird notes all over the place. I work in Sonar's score view, so I need it to be clean (I use Notion for real scores, but it is easier to work in score view without all the weird notes. I guess it doesn't matter if you work in PRV, but I don't, so it does make a difference).

  • OK, it does not look like you can use CC events in place of keyswitches. However, I have discovered that the problem was caused by Cakewalk designating C5 as middle C, while Vienna has it as C4. I set Cakewalk's base ocatve (that's base, not bass) to -1. This allows me to use the correct keyswitch values for everything but the basses. For them, I have to transpose the keyswitch notes up an octave. This is becasue I set the basses to play an ocatve lower than written. This setting I also made in Cakewalk. CORRECTION: The basses are also working as they should now. So all keyswitchges are working correctly.

Also, I have added special tracks for all inst's using Synchron, and I put the keyswitch assignments on them. I adjust clefs so I can easily read the notes, so I know I have the correct value. While viewing, say, all the strings in Cakewalk's staff view, I don't  open these special tracks, so there is no confusion. I see only the "real" notes.

I purchased Appassionata Strings recently, so I am highly motivated to get things working. It looks like I'm pretty much there at this point.
