  • SE v3 VS Appassionata Strings I VS Sy-Ized App. Strings

    Hello everybody !

First excuse-me if my english is not perfect.

I'm a new VSL user since some weeks. After years hearing about those libraries, i decided to take the plunge, taking advantage of 2+2 offer on solo instruments. And I finally understood why VSL are so much valued around musical production. Yet i already use EWQL and Kontakt Libraries for years, but with just some Solo VSL instruments, I felt like I was moving into another dimension 😊

Since, I go on with learning of those at same time simple and complex instruments, with really beautiful sound and incredibly realistic articulations algos. And I fall for VE Pro 7 Offer with Epic Orchestra 2.0

Anyway now i start thinking about getting some large strings ensemble to strengthen libs i already have. But i have limited budget, and i would prefer to make the right choice, quite to wait a little.

I like working on different styles (symphonic metal for example), but my main style is rather like contemporary film scoring, dark, warm, emotionnal, with other styles mixing.

I'm not a good mixer, i'm self-taught in computer assisted music. But i continue to learn with little free time i have left.

First I watch actually Synchron inst. offer. I like what i heard with Epic Orchestra 2.0 (tested Sync-ized App St + SyStrings layered ...sounds great !). But finally, since i tested VI Pro + solos VI, i'm not sure this "ready-to-use" and "no mixing needed" mode is what i prefer on advanced project. But it's great to play quickly good tracks.

I read on this forum Dimension Strings are often most valued realistic and versatile lib, Appassionata Strings rather advisable for Epic and Great Large Strings (my fondness i confess), and when u can do it, associate many Strings libs to enlarge richness of sound.

I also read SE vol 3 contains main content of App Strings 1 & 2.

So what would you advice me to do, to wait for .... ?😊

  • Hi Thrawn

I would recommend to get the library from the VI series. The SYNCHRON-ized version is good, but to me, it doesn't compare to the original library. If you don't have the money, you can get the volume 3 from the Special Edition and upgrade later. I believe there is a special offer right now at Best Service. Hope it helps.

    Best,

    David

  • I personally prefer the Vienna Instruments series, recorded dry in the Silent Stage. I'm not particularly interested in the Synchron Series, that has the advantage of being ready to use, but lacks the incredible flexibility offered by the VI series.

There is an online shop currently proposing 50% off from the Symphonic Cube. I would go for it, and maybe wait for other offers to get Appassionata and Dimension Strings. But there is a lot you can already do with the Cube, that is the complete symphonic orchestra.

Yes. When you buy a Standard or Full VI library you get a discount for owning the SE version. Be aware that discount is not dollar for dollar. You will still own the SE version of your instruments.

Still the SE versions are worth it for getting started, since they give you a broad range of instruments at a very reasonable price. And they get you used to the VSL system of the Vienna Instruments player and the Vienna Ensemble host.
