  • problem with CC settings

controller settings applied to all instruments instead of one. I have a large file in VE Pro 6 with VI Pro2, and when I changed controller for pitch shift, other instruments not meant to pitch shift did so, and are playing wrong notes. Tried changing "sync matrix" to "off" in options but had no effect.   So CC settings are being applied outside of the instrument that was selected. Also, master computer does not send any controller information on that channel but pitch shifted anyway within VE.

VI Pro2 in VE Pro6 latest build standalone on HP Xeon 12 core 64 bit 64 GB RAM slave triggered by external MIDI master.

  • Is this an error with VE Pro 6?

  • Another possibility might be this is a huge file, perhaps has become corrupted?

  • That's ashamed William. I'm very sorry to hear about your problems. I had an issue like this with VE5 (which I still use BTW). In my situation the input channels from my DAW had somehow been switched to OMNI in VE so everytime I moved the controller on my keyboard all of the channels on OMNI, or "ALL" were affected. Does this problem happen with any project you load or just this large one? Is it just the pitch that's affected? Did you try double right clicking on the affected fader(s) to decouple it from the controller? If it is a corrupted file you could try working one track at a time, bounce to audio, then mix the audio tracks. I think in VE6 you right click the track and an option comes up saying "deactivate channel? I think. Yes. Working one track at a time is laborious and time consuming but if it will get you through without having to redo the whole project it might be worth it. I hope you find a solution because I'd like to hear what it is you're working on.

  • Thanks for replying Jasen

It has not happened to me before, will try and figure out something, perhaps load fxp files into VE Pro 5 and see if the problem disappears which would indicate a bug in 6 (?)

    Hi William,

I had the same experience.   The fix that worked for me was going into the settings of each instance of VI Pro and toggling the "Synchronize Control Map" so that the bit gets set in the unchecked state (see image below).

  • Of course!  You are right - THAT was the fix I was trying to remember.  Dad burn it, I saw that once and it completely exited my mind!   Thanks a lot Rustycrook!

We need a VSL Tips and Tricks thread that is always at the top!

  • REVISION --

I just went through and checked all settings - "synchronize control map"  was already toggled off.

So I did a test and changed CC on one instrument.

    ALL THE OTHERS CHANGED!!!

    Still totally screwed...

  • Here's another  -

The CC changes occur in VE Pro 5 on all instruments if only one instrument is changed.  I uninstalled VE6 and replaced all instances to be compatible with VE5.  Using fxp files.  Then installed VE5. Same thing.

So you want one instrument to respond differently to controller data - a normal thing.  Nothing special, nothing weird.  But all the others do too...

That destroys the performance.  If it is pitch shift as in this case - all other instruments are playing in the wrong key.  Only one instrument should be changed, not every instrument.

So what is the hidden solution?

  • Hi William,

Yesterday I did a test concerning the problem you have, with a few VIPro instances in VEPro, but that worked fine here.
This morning I waked up with a thought of such a experience as you have, I had some time (more than a year?) ago.
As far as I can remember in my case it was a solution to

    • first check the box that RustyCrook showed (Synchronize Control Maps)
    • then close the server of VEPro
    • then reopen the server instance and uncheck that box

Perhaps you did it already so, but if not, you could give it a shot.

    Good luck!

  • MMKA it is impressive you figured that out because apparently it may be a bug and this same solution was suggested by Paul.  I am going to check the beta version to see.   This would explain why the solution suggested by Rustycrook didn't work for me.

I never noticed this before because I had stopped altering controller settings for a while and was just using the files as they were.   So it probably worked fine on the earlier versions I had used.

thanks very much for the replies!

  • I installed the beta version of VI  that Paul sent me and it solved the problem.  There is now no issue with changing controller settings.

  • Good to hear!
