  • 2 Mac direct connect problem

    Hi -

Long time reader of the forums, but never had a problem I couldn't solve with existing posts, or a friends help.
I'm running 2 macs - master & slave. I had direct connect working, but now it's not. Don't know if I did something, but can't figure it out.

    MASTER

Mac Pro 2.8 quad, 32 gig RAM, OS 10.12.6

Wi-fi off, using dedicated ethernet port and cable for direct connect

    Connected manually - 192.168.10.10

    VEP Pro 5.4.16181

    SLAVE

    MacBook Pro 2.5 i7, 16 gig RAM, OS 10.12.6

    Wi-fi off, Connected manually - 192.168.10.12

    VEP Pro 5.4.16181

I use DP 9.51 as my DAW on the master. I made a MAS stereo plugin (VEP server interface). Master does not see slave. If I go to SystemPrefs on Master, I can see the two machines are direct connected. I can pull the cable and see them disconnect, plug it back in and see them reconnect. I can turn wi-fi on and they can connect (but obviously I don't want to work that way). With wi-fi off I can type in the slave server address on the master (in DP) and they will try to connect, but fail.

    Thanks for your help,

    Geoff Stradling

    What you can try :

Mac Pro 2.8 quad, 32 gig RAM, OS 10.12.6

Wi-fi off, using dedicated ethernet port and cable for direct connect

Connected manually - 192.168.0.10 if your rooter has adress 192.168.0.0

    SLAVE

    MacBook Pro 2.5 i7, 16 gig RAM, OS 10.12.6

    Wi-fi off, Connected automaticaly

You can try if they are talking toogether

Then you note down the figures and you set it "manualy" with the figures you have noted

Tell me is you had succes ðŸ˜Š

  • Hi - thanks for the idea.

No, this did not work. But I am not using a router for this anyway. This is a "direct connect" - one cable from ethernet port to ethernet port.

My connection between the 2 Macs works. I can see it in the Network pane of System Prefs on both computers, so the connection is working (active). But the VEP Server Interface plugin in DP can not connect to the slave.

  • I tried updating from DP 9.51 to 9.52. No change. The Macs are talking to eachother over the direct connection, but I can not get The VEP instance in DP to connect to the slave.

  • Is VEPro 5.x even compatible with OSX Sierra? That may be the issue.

  • Yes, they're compatible.

The problem was subnet masks. They were set to  255.255.255.255 they needed to be 255.255.255.0

    Thanks folks!
