  • Dimension Strings I 03.2019 Update

    Hi,

I just discovered an not so small update for Dimension Strings I from last week.

Can some from VSL (Paul?) chime in and talk about what was updated?

    All Best, Ben

...simply the fact Dimension Strings got an update made my day, whatever it is!

Thank you to VSL for listening to users and for valorizing the value of the library in VI format as well!

Now looking forward to testing it :)

  • Hi,

can't succed in updating Dimension Strings I & II.

I drag the file "25_Dimension-Strings-I_LibUpdate2019-03-21" into Directory Manager. After a while i get the message "0 files were updated".

    Same with file "29_Dimension-Strings-II_LibUpdate2019-03-21".

All my Dimension Strings-IV files are dated 06.12.2015. So an update would be urgent.

What am I doing wrong ?

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

It should look like the attached screens. Did you make sure that no VSL Software is running and that the sample content is available in your Directory Manager?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

thank you very much  for your quick reply. When updating

     - no VSL Software is running

     - the sample content is available in my Directory Manager (see attach).

Anyway I always get the message "0 files were updated".

Please check my Directory Manager picture. Perhaps there is anything wrong.

    In my folder "001-Dimension-Strings I habe 361 dat-files; all dated 06.12.2015;

in my folder "Dimension Strings 2 I have four subfolders (Violins, Vioas, Cellos, Basses) with each 4 dat-files,

    all dated 08.10.2016.

    Thanks in advance

    Peter

  • Hi,

    Looks like it should.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd try the update after a restart (to kill all background processes).

    Does it work then?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

    restarted. Unfortunately it doesn't help.

When starting the update process by dragging the update-file over DM I get a message, which I don't understand clearly (see attach). Perhaps the problem is there ?

  • Is your license key plugged in? I had the same problem until I plugged it in.

  • @dbudde

eLicenser is plugged in, but you gave me the idea: I did synchroinization & maintenace with eLicenser and it helped.

Thank you very much, for your help and Paul's.

    Peter

  • I still want to know what the update is about before installing it. :)

  • Hi,

I will post more details asap (will check with Herb), but in general, the Library Update incorporates all the improvements we were able to make while creating the SYNCHRON-ized Dimension Strings.

    Best,
    Paul

Thanks. So probably the legato/portamento improvements which are mentioned on the product page of the Synchon-ized Dimension Strings.

  • Hi Pixelpoet,

Here you go: As mentioned, we have scrutinized Dimensio Strings during the re-editing of the whole material.

One important task was an enhancement with a releasse sample technology for fp, sfz, sffz and legato repetition Patches.
We also optimized the Performance Legatos and Performance Portamentos, along with quite some minor fixes and enhancements.
With this library update for VI Dimension Strings, all existing users also get the benefits we added for all SYNCHRON-ized users.

    Best,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

I have some questions on these:

    1) On the SYNCHRON-ized page of the library it says that the enhanced release technology is special to the Synchron Player. Thus, I think that this enhacement isn't available for the VI library, right?

    2) In the SYNCHRON-ized library all articulations are balanced. Is this true for the VI library?

  • Hi,

    1) Correct.

    2) Our Synchron Series have an improved balance (from a different standpoint, and all positioned @Synchron Stage).

    Best,
    Paul

    Thanks, Paul.

Does it mean that in the VI library the articulations are balanced, too?

I'm asking, because the older string libraries aren't balanced. And as Dimension Strings is the newest of them, maybe you decided to adjust the levels.

  • Hi,

True, the older string libraries are not volume-balanced (but you can get to a good starting point with the MIRx settings and the natural volume setting in MIR Pro).

The system stayed the same for the VI Series.

    Best,
    Paul

  • can you comment a little bit more about that when you say the VI libray is not "volume balanced", while synchron is...what does that mean exactly?

  • The VI instruments have all the same volume. You have to mix the instruments if you want it to sound good. The Synchron instruments are matched to each other, so you can use them without manual mixing. In most cases you will still want to tweak some little things, but it works out-of-the-box.
