    I've searched the manual, this forum and online and can't find out how to create VCA folders in VEPro 6. I've been using VEPro 6 for some time now and with version 7 coming I've been revisiting the existing features (some of which I've not used) and one that comes up and people talk about is VCA folders but there's nothing anywheres that I can find on creating them. Any ideas?

    I think that's just "Folders" in VEP.  If you create a folder with some channels in it, the mixer will show a vca channel strip on the mixer for that folder...its not a summing channel...its just a vca type of fader for everything inside it.

    Thanks for the explanation. Interesting thing as I mentioned is that nowheres in the manual does it explain that the fader is a vca-type fader deal.  But doesn't a vca fader adjust every fader in it's purview? Because if I make a folder and include a bunch of channels in that folder none of the individual faders move. The only thing that moves is the folder fader.

    does it change the level when you adjust it?  VCA, DCA..i dunno the exactly analogy, but the point is the sound is not summing there per say.

    The Folder fader works like you have placed things in an empty bus with the addition of being a folder; when the level of the bus the channels reside in is affected all the levels are in unison at the output, but it's not properly a VCA type.

    I never have, maybe someone talked about it on the forum. It's not in the menus, I never thought of it.
    I use folders a bit, but it's primarily to hide things. A couple of times I brought the levels of a reeds or brass choir down, it appears to work like a group bus.
    I know what they are from Nuendo. Its a popular feature request I used to see.

    The output from the channels inside a folder are NOT sent to a new empty bus.  They continue to go to whatever bus each channel is assigned to.  Folders in VEP are purely organizational, they are not sub mixes through a bus.

    The fader that is present on the folder channel strip, notice there is no meter or signal going through it, its just a fader.  if you move that fader, you don't see the faders move inside the folder, but the levels are all being adjusted anyway.   Its more like a VCA or DCA

    I said it works "like" an empty bus; no, it is not an actual bus in the strict sense per VE Pro. It's a grouping. I don't really use it to mix.

    Group, cf., Cubendo group bus. It would bring the levels down as a group, obv not via their faders.

    My understanding of VCA's difference to that can be illustrated like so: you have a reverb send from a channel  in the group, bringing down the Group bus brings that relationship (people like to call if 'offsets' apparently) down as well in the VCA bus. If it's just a Group in Cubase or an Aux say in Logic, the 'offset' is not governed.
