  • How do I use Steinway D 274 as a plugin?

I purchased and installed the Steinway D 274 standard library--all the samples on an SSD as instructed. I also downloaded Vienna Ensemble standalone and the Syncrhon Pianos download, and my Vienna Key is working with all this, so I'm good in that regard. Based on all of my experience with other sampled pianos and sample instruments I was expecting the final step of actually running the standalone player for my steinway D 274 to be trivial. However, I am discovering that I just cannot figure out how to load and play the instrument in my DAW (Sonar X1) or in Vienna Ensemble standalone. The Synchron piano download consists of various folders and DLL files (so far neither my DAW nor Vienna Ensemble seem to recognize any of these files as VSTs. I am usually very good with this kind of thing, but in this particular case I am baffled by what normally is a very easy part of the whole process. Perhaps because I'm new to VSL and its way of doing things? Can someone please, give me just the basic steps of which files I need (besides the samples) and where I should locate those files, and how to use them (import them as VSTs?) in conjunction with  a DAW or Vienna Ensemble standalone so that I can begin using my new Steinway D 274?  Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me! :-)

  • Hi William,

Synchron Pianos is installed like any other VST plug-in on Windows.

Did you make sure that you have installed it to the correct VST Plug-in Folders (and that those are assigned in your Sonar X1 Preferences)?

  • I am able to bring Vienna Ensemble into my Sonar X1 and also I can bring up Vienna Ensemble as a standalone. When I have either Sonar or Vienna Ensemble scan my Synchron Pianos folder, subfolders, and DLLs, neither Sonar nor Vienna Ensemble finds anything in those folders that they recognize as VST instruments. Am I supposed to be using Vienna Ensemble to host Steinway D 274? Is there a standalone Synchron Pianos player that I should be using? If so I do not know how to find and download that from the web site.

    Hello William,

Unfortunately there is no standalone version of Synchron Pianos yet, but the plug-in will work in any host.

Are you sure that you have installed the latest version of the software?

You can always send some screenshots that show the location of your VST Plug-in folders containing the Synchron Pianos.dll and the VST Plug-in folders assigned in your host, to double-check for us: support@vsl.co.at

  • Paul, thanks. All is well and working now.

I uninstalled Synchron Pianos and then reinstalled it.

This allowed me to easily locate the actual Synchron Pianos DLL.

I am now able to run Steinway D-274 in my SONAR X1 DAW, as well as in the standalone Vienna Ensemble app.

Wow! The instrument is lovely to listen to! At last. :-)
