    I have just the basic: "Vienna Ensemble Service 6.0.17951 (64-bit)" from C:\Program Files\Vienna Instruments\Vienna Ensemble.exe

    I'm being invited to upgrade to "Vienna Ensemble Pro 7".  Is the Pro version just for those who have their library files on a different computer, or is there more to it than that?

    The documentation says: "As Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 is fully backward compatible with versions 4, 5, and 6, you can load your existing projects and keep working on your music right after installation."

    As I don't already have a Pro version, I assume I won't be able to load my existing projects?

    No, you can load a non-pro version into pro.  It will play back and stay the same.  If  you save it though, the project will no longer load into non-pro or earlier versions as it is converted into the current pro version by saving.
