  • Unable to install Epic Orchestra 2 - Blue Screen of Death

Actually I need support, but cannot find it.

Just installed VEP7. Fine. Tried to install Epic Orch 2. Not so good.

Tried twice to install all packages first, no luck, computer crashes with BSOD "DPC_Watchdog_Violation".

I researched the problem. As per recommendation, I reinstalled all the SSD drivers. Then I downloaded the Sandisk Dashboard program to check the SSD. It reported Firmware is up to date, no errors found. My SSD drive is Sandisk SDSSPS960G. 180GB free.

Then I tried to install each of the 9 packages separately. They all installed FINE, except one of them. The largest one, Synchron Strings Light (32GB) will not install. Each time it gets to 33%, it stalls. Then crashes with a BSOD and the same error message: "DPC_Watchdog_Violation".

So all the other instruments have installed, except Synchron Strings Light. I believe it may be too large to install in one go?

I run up to date Windows 10 with 32GB of RAM.

  • What formatting are you using (right click on the drive of the SSD in the explorer -> Properties -> the value of "File system")?

  • It is "NTFS"

  • You can try following:

    - Disable any Anti-Virus during installation
    - Open the Device Manager, go to your Disk drives, right-click and the drive and Update Driver
    - See if there is a firmware update for your SSD. If yes, install it

    Best, Ben

  • Hi Ben

Thanks for your reply. As per my original post I have already checked and updated the drivers (they were up to date), and checked the firmware version (up to date).

  • Hi Chris,

Which device are you installing from? We have had cases where installation from a slow USB stick or via an external DVD drive did not work.

  • Hi Paul

I am installing from an Internal HDD drive (G:) to a separate internal SSD drive (Z:)

  • Hi Chris,

    I'd try the following:

    1) Copy the installation files to your SSD drive.

    2) Start the Synchron Library Installer (from within the Synchron Player application folder) and point it to the package.info file in this folder and run the installation from there.

    Does it work then?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul

I thought it was worth a try. I have done what you suggested. I was not optimistic, but it "worked" only slightly better. Now the process got to 51% before BSOD, same "DPC_Watchdog_Violation". After 33% (the last point of BSOD) the install became VERY SLOW. (See original post).

I thought maybe my install file was corrupt (though it copied fine from G: to Z:). But if corrupt, it would crash in the same place, which it hadn't.

Again I was only installing Synchron Strings Light (32GB) for this trial. Is it at all possible to break that library up into 2 or 3 pieces? I am sure it will work then. The next biggest library, Power Drums Light (14GB) installed okay.

    Regards

    Hello Christo,

I googled the error and this is what I found... maybe it helps?

  • Hi Paul

No it does not. THat is where this thread started. If you look at my original post you will see that I have already addressed those issues and that I could find NO problems with drivers or Firmware, They are all  up to date. So back to square one.

    Thanks

    Chris

  • This will take a little longer but maybe it helps: Install the library oto your HDD, after that move them to the SSD.
If this works you just have to add the new path in the Synchron-Player settings.

    Hi Ben

Good idea, thanks. No, it did not work, still crashed after 50%, but it gave me another idea.

So I re-downloaded the library file fresh from VSL. But instead of installing on my 2015 Desktop, I installed it on my 2019 laptop SSD. And it actually worked. Then I just copied the installed file over to my desktop SSD. So hopefully my problem, while not solved, is worked-around.

Was it the newer machine, or the newer file that did it? I don't know. (Both machines are up to date Win 10 OS).

  • Hi Christo,

Thanks for the update. Looks like this one will remain a mistery.

    Enjoy!
