  • Which Protocol Is Used in VEPro

    Hi,

These days I'm trying to find out a Controller surface that can control Vienna Ensemble Pro 6. I'm trying to see whether how compatible ICON Platform Nano is? The company said that if VE Pro uses Mackie control protocol it should work.

So does anyone knows what protocol is used in VE Pro to communicate?

    Thank You

  • Hi,

my advice: set the controller up in your DAW and assign the controller to the VEP plugin parameters or set it up as VST Quick Control controller (may be called different in your DAW). This also allows you to record automation and save these with your project.

I have the ICON Platform M+ and it works for me.

    Best, Ben

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your feedback... It's really a great news that it works. Can you please share the steps taken to set it up to assign the controller to the VEP plugin parameters or to set it up as VST Quick Control controller?

    Thank You

  • Hi,

what DAW are you using? If it is Cubase I will gladly help you, but I am not familar with other DAWs.
But maybe someone else can help you with them.

  • If you're happy with MIDI controlling parameters, if the device is communicating with Cubase or Nuendo correctly, it's a matter of the learn function in QC or VST controls. VE Pro is not likely to communicate with the Mackie Universal Control for its parameters; if it does, it would be quite some doing to set up.

  • And it would be a matter to sort in Cubendo, a kind of translation.
For a generic controller MCU is good for the mixer faders, and sends in the Cubendo mixer.
It's hard-wired and a technology established quite before there was any VE Pro and pretty opaque. I used to have one, as to its configurability... some people might have a handle on this dark art, but I sure don't and my expectation would be pretty low.

I double-checked, I'm pretty sure there is no configurability, it does what it does and that's that. If you have a controller which will learn MIDI from Track or VST Controls, you're doing better than I am with this Korg thing from apparently the Bronze Age.

    Hi Ben,

I'm using ProTools 12.7. I think Icon Platform Nano has a template for ProTools.

    Thank You
