  • VEP and Cubase quick controls

I've been using Vienna Ensemble Pro (VEP) for years and I'm trying to assign quick controls. What happens is, although I have several instances of VEP loaded in Cubase (with different parameters assigned for each in the VEP server), every time I try to get parameters in the Remote Control Editor, I end up with the same parameters in every VEP instance. Any ideas?

  • Quick Controls, or any of the controls in that dialog, are not built for Multiple Ports, but for simple channel assignments under the one given port in Cubase. So if you're using multiple ports from VE Pro VST3, you're probably going to run into a wall. If you're not, I don't know.

  • Actually, what I'm trying to do is load several instances of VEP (10) so I can have unique quick controls for each instance. My old template was just 2 instances (with the same sample libraries).

I did find a weird workround however. I found that I can copy the VST2 VEP .dll file and rename it and Cubase will see it as a different plugin (doesn't seem to work with VST3). so I created 8 new versions of the VEP plugin and it worked, I now have unique quick controls for every instance and the 16 midi channel limitation of VST2 isn't an issue.

  • Are you able to control any and all exposed parameters through this?

  • Yes, I think so. But because it's hard to switch quick control pages via a keyswitch or controller in Cubase, i've just set up 8 parameters in each instance of VEP.

  • I wanted to use QC finally with a little NanoKontrol2 I bought last year. For MIDI, I have no real need to control faders in the mixer by such a thing. It never happened (known issue and Korg has done nothing for years, Cubase on Mac is a non-starter, and problematic on Mac pretty widely for the last several OSes).

It's rather outdated, Quick Controls. The whole paradigm of changing pages... a number of things still do that, it's too fiddly for me any way you cut it.  What controller are you using?
