  • CC11 settings in Sibelius presets when using MIR Pro

    Hi everybody,

I am using VI Pro with Sibelius. I was wondering, why in the VI presets for Sibelius CC11 (Expression) is set to 100 for most instruments, at 110 for harp and timpani, and to 127 for percussion? I always just changed it, the way I liked it, but now I am playing around with MIR Pro and very much like the idea of "natural volume", as it gives a good impression of the "real" balance between instruments. In order not to distort the "natural volume", wouldn't it be better to set CC11 and of course CC7 to the same level for all instruments? I know, that the "natural volume"  only is a starting point for mixing, but I would like to have that starting point as realistic als possible.
Maybe somebody has some good insights or ideas about that? I'm really new to the whole MIR thing - love it by the way!

Another thing I am wondering about: to me it seems a little bit strange, that for example the trumpet and the muted trumpet have the same "natural volume" -9.5 dB. The same with the horns and the stopped horns. Shouldn't the muted volumes have more offset?

Have a nice and peaceful weekend everybody!

    Stefan
