    Hello,

    I was wondering if someone could help me use one of the plugins in Vienna Suite Pro to create a brick wall limiter on my master output track of my DAW to protect my hearing incase of an audio explosion (have had several in my life and actually punched myself right in the face trying to rip off the headphones).

    I believe I found a preset in the limiter that says "Overload Protection" and sounds like it's made just for this purpose.

    Dietz, can you please confirm this for me?  I am making many changes to my preload buffers and other things to try to fine tune my system and it exploded on me already once today.

    The good thing about digital audio is that 0 dBfs is just that: Full scale, i.e. the maximum gain a single sample can reach. So in this sense "Overload Protection" will do - but so does the D/A-converter itself. 

    Many people nowadays adjust their listening volume in the digital domain _before_ the converter, so they will still could run into an ear-shattering noisburst if their monitoring is set to full power in the analog domain. No brickwall limiter will save them from that - unless that "brickwall" limiter is set to something like -20 dBfs maximum output (or whatever appears to be a meaningful value).

    Thanks Dietz, that is a really good thing to wrap your head around.  Having my D/A turned up, and we constantly turn everything down on the mixer channels and master output of the DAW, but never account for the fact that when the explosion happens, the D/A is going to let it all come through.  Doing orchestral work this problem is even worse since you are allowing such incredible levels of dynamics in the music.  It leaves a big door open for the exlposion to take advantage of.

    I might need to rethink how I do this.  Do you have a good reference or video that discusses this and ensure a good safe setup is achieved?
