  • Half Pedal to Full Pedal CFX

Unlike other virtual pianos, the Yamaha CFX pedaling doesn't change from half pedal to full pedal directly. It seems that the value is locked in until the pedal is released and then depressed again. For example, if the pedal was applied at 50% for a passage and then continued all the way down to 100% (for full sustain) for another passage, the CFX pedal level stays at only 50%. To get to 100%, one has to fully lift and then press again to get a new value. Using a Nord Piano with its Triple Pedal, I'm also frequently failing to trigger full sustain on the Yamaha. Am I missing something, or is this a problem? If so, is there a plan to address this soon?

  • Hi ebsbaz2,

We will look into it. Please be so kind and send us a simple MIDI file that shows some examples , best with a short description: support@vsl.co.at

    Thanks,
    Paul

Does your pedal send the correct midi values?

Hi Paul. Thank you for the response. After spending some more time with the CFX piano, I realized that the Synchron Player is indeed receiving continuous MIDI information from the pedal, but it seems more sensitive to the velocity change than the actual MIDI values. I now see the gold circle indicator of the pedal MIDI value. If I apply the pedal enough to produce a 50% value in the gold sustain pedal circle and then slowly increase the pedal pressure to full depressed (full sustain and what should be a MIDI value of 127), the ring only moves to about 60%, and the result is the sound of half-pedal still even though the pedal is fully depressed. In contrast, when I rapidly change from half-pedal at 50% to full sustain, the gold ring indicator and piano sustain sound is achieved. So a slow change from very light pedal pressure to full sustain is not being translated.

     Thank you again,

  • Hi Erik,

Feel free to send us a file that shows what you describe. Best with a simple example like a chord.

    Hello Paul,

My problem turned out to be the Nord Piano and the sustain pedal values and changes that were sent from it. I replaced the Nord with a Kawai MP11SE, now the Yamaha CFX plays wonderfully, and the sustain pedal MIDI values are accurate and perform well.

    Thank you for your help,
