  • Vienna Ensemble problem with Logic

I purchased VEPro 6 which included Epic Orchestra some time ago. I also have Vienna Ensemble 6 installed on my computer. I think I may have downloaded it along with the other products because it was listed in MyVSL but I can't remember..

Because I run a slave system, my eLicenser key is on my PC where I run VEPro. Now (afer upgrading the OS to High Sierra) whenever I launch Logic on the Mac it tries to scan Vienna Ensemble each time and I have to abort the scan manually because the key is not plugged in there. However I don't use VE, only VEPro. Can I safely uninstall it or do I need it to run Epic Orchestra? If it is ok to uninstall it, how do I do so? Thanks.

    Hi Marcusmax,

You can safely remove Vienna Ensemble from your applications.

Alternatively, run the included Vienna Instruments UNINSTALLER, then install the latest version of VI/VE and deselect Vienna Ensemble in the installation procedure (so it won't get installed in the first place).

  • Many thanks for your reply Paul. Sorry, I'm only seeing this now!

Actually I have another issue now. Since I updated Logic to the latest version 10.4.5, whenever I open a project there it no longer loads the relevant VEPro server project automatically. It loads a separate (new) project with corresponding instances for the channels that have VEPro on them but it doesn't load any patches and the colours of the instances are all wrong. So it isn't loading up the server project that I have previously used for my template. It used to load everything up correctly including all of that. I always keep all instances decoupled but that has never caused any problems. I have the new Logic setting "Only load plugins needed for project playback" unchecked. Any idea what might be causing this? I have the server project saved separately so I am loading that before loading the Logic project as a workaround but I would like to be able to launch everything with the Logic project as before.

  • Hi Marcusmax,

If you are working on a one-computer setup, that's very weird (always the same IP address for localhost: 127.0.0.1).

If you are working in a network, it sounds like your IP address has changed.

  • Hi Paul

Sorry for (very!) late reply but I've been away for a few weeks.

It's a slave setup and I haven't changed anything in terms of the IP address on either computer but I will double-check that to make sure. Thanks for your suggestion.

    Mark

Edit: I've just checked everything and all looks ok in terms of IP addresses on both the PC and the Mac. They are the same as before and still static. The only thing is that on the Mac in Network Settings, Configure IPv4 was set to 'Using DHCP'. That was probably how it was set before updating to High Sierra but I changed it to 'Using DHPC with manual address' just in case (because setting it to 'Manually' didn't seem to work at all). I have the static addresses set up in my router's configuration, which also hasn't changed. Does that sound ok? Could something else be causing this?

  • Hi Mark,

    Thanks for the update.

If the IP address changed, you might have to connect to the newly loaded instance, save that song again and it should work from there on.

  • Hi Paul

The IP address hasn't changed, I'm pretty sure of that. I have saved that song (in Logic) with the Server project loaded many times since updating Logic, which also involved updating MacOS to High Sierra by the way, but it still won't load the project properly upon re-launching the song. Could this be something to do with High Sierra maybe?

  • Hi Marc,

I don't think it has something to do with High Sierra.

It sounds like your logic song doesn't find the right combination of IP address and instance name and therefore pushes data to VE Pro to open a new instance....

  • You're probably right Paul, makes sense. The question is why Logic is doing that. Possibly to do with the update, perhaps some new setting or whatever. Will look into it some more. Thanks.

  • I tried it with an older version of Logic (10.4.4) but it's the same problem. Something has changed since updating to High Sierra but I can't for the life of me figure out what. I've gone through all the settings on both computers for IP addresses, firewall etc. but all is the same as it was before. Very strange. I need to figure out why Logic is now doing what you describe Paul but so far it's eluding me..
