  • Can Soft eLicenser be restored?

Hey, can Soft eLicenser authorizations be restored from a bootable bit-for-bit copy of your startup drive? (I use SuperDuper from Shirt Pocket Software.)

I know they're tied to one computer, but it occurred to me that I could at least back up VSL on the system backup I keep in my car.

The odds of a dongle going bad seem pretty low, but I live in a canyon that's vulnerable to fire.

    TIA

  • By the way, my equipment insurance would cover melted dongles and computers, but not a failed dongle.

  • There is none VSL software that runs with the soft eLicenser. You need always a dongle and it is not possible to make a copy of it (thats the point of a copy-protection system).

The Steinberg soft-eLicenses can be recovered at the MySteinberg account page. A bit-for-bit copy will not work because soft-eLicenser activation is bound to the harddisk serial-number (which is a different one on a different drive).

  • Okay, thanks.

But just so you know, my question isn't quite as silly as it sounds. :) Lots of copy-protected software over the years has been replaceable from disk images, in fact for years all PACE-protected software did.
