  • VEP6: how to manually set buffer size?

    Hello everyone,

I've re-read the manual, and many posts on this subforum, and still am confused. No matter what buffer size my audio interface and other applications are set to, VEP6 always reports a buffer size of 512. How do I tell VEP6 to use the buffer size I specify?

Why this is an issue for me: I'm testing using Spat Revolution with my workflow. Buffer size must be set manually in SpatRev, and when SpatRev's buffer size doesn't match with everything else in the chain, SpatRev will return a sync error and ignore all input (i.e., it refuses to process audio, resulting in complete silence even though MIDI and level meters are lighting up in VEP). No matter which buffer size I set in the audio interface and every other application in the chain, VEP6 is always reporting 512 to SpatRev –– thus, 512 is currently the only setting which produces audio. Unfortunately I'm not a virtuoso, so 512 results in enough latency that I trip all over myself when trying to perform live from a MIDI keyboard (and yes, I do have "additional buffers" set to 0 when performing live).

So, I need to know how to "force" VEP6 to report a specific buffer size to SpatRev, but I can't figure out how to accomplish this. If I'm not misunderstanding, some threads seem to imply that buffer size is completely dynamic for VEP at all times, i.e. that there is no way to set buffer size manually -- I'm hoping I've just misunderstood and there's a way to do this which will be obvious after someone kindly points it out to me.

Could someone please help me understand? Thank you in advance!

    Some specs in case helpful:

The signal path I'm working with is MIDI keyboard and Dorico 2 --> VEP6 --> Spat Revolution --> VEP6 --> audio out.

RME Babyface w/latest drivers and firmware, Dorico 2 latest version, VEP 6.0.17966, Mac OS X 10.12.2, MacPro 6-core 3.5Ghz Intel Xeon E5, 64GB RAM.

    Kind regards,

    Sam
