  • VEP 7 - VEP 7 didn't start in Cubase 10

    Hello,

if i insert Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 in Cubase, VEP 7 didn't start automatically.

    A window arise:

If i push connect next window appear:

There is no instance to choose from.

If i insert Vienna ensemble 6 (not pro), then vienna ensemble service starts in the background and all is fine.

The Vienna Ensemble Pro Standalone apllication is NOT loaded in the background

I try 127.0.0.1 in the server/instance field, no connect.

    What can i do?

    Now, i can't use VEP7 in Cubase 10!!!

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi,

have you already took a look at the manual of VEP7? You can download it in the MyVSL section.
It will guide you through the process with text and screenshots (it is a little different workflow from the non-Pro version).
I think this is quicker then explaining every step here. But if you have any questions or something in the manual is not clear to you, feel free to ask.

  • Thanks, okay...

    Step 1

    I start Cubase 10,

    Step 2

    then i start VEP7 Server.

I got an error message regarding elicenser access rights, soft elicenser can't used,

    Step 3

    but i click on ok.

    VEP 7 starts.

    Step 4

Then i opened a Cubase project and VEP 7 appears with the installed VI strings

So it seems to be too complicated.

Wh< do i manually start the VEP 7 server, right after the cubase start (if i start the project, it never works then!)?

Why it is not possible, that the VEP server starts with the opening project which contains VEP 7 like Vienna Ensemble (not pro version)?

Advertise on local network is activated in VEP server?

Do i miss something? or it is really so "complicated" to start VEP7?

  • One thing i missed, why i had failed.

Manual says, start VEP Server BEFORE starting the sequencer.

This failed with an elicenser error (cubase uses the elicenser as well).

It only works if i start cubase first, then the VEP server and then the cubase project.

    Any other order fails!

Honestly, i can't believe this, any other advise?

  • Hi whitealbum,

VE Pro also works in networks, so you have to start it manually in order to have your server(s) available (we cannot know whether you want to use it on a one-computer setup or a 10 computer setup.

    It's not so complicated:

    1) Start the VE Pro Server when you start working, on all computers you want to connect to from your sequencer.

    2) Start your sequencer, connection will be automatic when you load up a saved song.

    Let's take a deep breath 😊.

Which OS are you working on, which version of the eLicenser Control Center are you using?
Is your key connected directly to your computer?

  • Yepp :-)

    - I use Win 7 SP1 latest updates Professional

    - I use VEP only on this local host.

    - elicenser 6.11.6.1254 latest

    1. As i said, if i start VEP 7 Server at first

    2. and then Cubase 10 i will get this error

Cubase caused an error, i have to start the computer (makes no sense, because i will get the same error again...).

At the moment, it only works if i first start cubase BEFORE opening a cubase project.

In fact, i will get an elicenser error as well, but it works...

But this is not intended, i think ?!

  • Hi,

    Thanks!

Works fine on our Win 7 computers. I'd say that#s a very good question for the Steinberg Support Team (eLicenser is part of Steinberg).

I'm afraid I can't help much in this regard, and I agree that this is annoying. Please keep us in the loop.

  • Me again.

Forgot to add: Maybe try with an archive version of the eLCC?

  • Sometimes after Windows updates the eLicenser Services are not correctly working anymore. Re-installing eLicenser fixes this issue.

Also Anti-Virus solutions can block the functionalities of the eLicenser. Try to temporary disable your AV solution and see if this fixes the issue. If yes, add eLicenser, Cubase and VEP to the AV's whitelist, so it doesn't get blocked.

To make local network discovery working, check the windows and AV firewall settings and make sure VEP is completly whitelisted. Also make sure the Apple Bonjour Service is running and whitelisted.

  • Nothin' worked,

not an old elicenser or a complete re-install of elicenser nor kaspersky internet security blocks VEP, nor firewall settings.

The problem with the error was --> it is a MUST to open VEP Server with WIN-ADMIN rights, this was my last try and it works.

So, if i open VEP server with admin rights, cubase starts then without an error.

After i've opened the cubase project. i have to re-connect to the vep server, hoping not doing this.

    Is this normal?

But, on the other side, now it works.

Is there a hint in the manual to start VEP server with win-admin rights?

Tahnks to you for your help.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the update. Most users have admin-rights on their music computer. Will check that this is added in the manual.

  • Your're welcome!

Please note, i do have admin rights on my computer, but you have to execute the VEP server exe-file on win computers as an admin as well!
