Hi there,

I saw a threat wirh a similar theme, but I can't find it again. So please push my qustion in the existing threat.

As many other users I have a problem with Vienna Synchron Play and Cubase.

I baught Vienna Smart Symphony and installed all recommanded Software and the Library (latest versions). I did it on two Laptops:

1: Intel I7, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD PCIe M2

2. Intel i/, 16 GB RAM, 2TB SSD PCIe M2

On both Laptops Vienna Synchron Play works fine as standalone Version.

In my Cubase 10 Artist I can open Vienna Synchron Play and load the Smart Vienna Orchestra. But in the moment when I press a key on the keyboard or click a key on the virtual keyboard Cubase shuts completely down without any message.

Usin Vienna instrumets in the moment is not possible, because I can't see any Patches, Presets or Matrix.

Greetings,

Rüdiger

Hi there,

Which OS are you working with? Any error messages?

Best,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I use Windows 10 with all recommanded updates. Pressing the first key on the virtual keyboard crashes Cubase without any Message, like many other user have described. It appears a loading cursor and after that Cubase determins itself.

Can you give some information about your audio system?
What audio interface are you using? What is the selected driver and are the buffer settings inside your DAW?

Do you use an addition anti-virus solution other then the OS default?

On one of my laptops there is the "Realtec High Definition Audio"

Now I did the following experiments:

  1. Loading Synchron Player, with ASIO4All driver, Buffersize 2048 Samples. Synchron Player loaded, doubleclicked on Smart Vienna Orchestra. Then cklicked on a key on the virtual keyboard and Cubase crashed.
  2. Connected the Steinberg UR22mkII to the laptop, changed Asio driver to use the spcial ASIO driver of the UR22mkII. Synchron Player loaded, doubleclicked on Smart Vienna Orchestra and it works fine.
  3. Startet a new Cubase project (WITHOUT starting Cubase new), disconnected the UR22mkII, returned to the ASIO4ALL driver. Synchron Player loaded, doubleclicked on Smart Vienna Orchestra and it works fine.
  4. Started Cubase completely new, wit ASIO4ALL driver. Synchron Player loaded, doublecklicked on Vienna Smart Orchestra, Cubase crashes clicking on a key on the virtual keyboard.

I hope, these informations are helpfull. And I hope there will be a possibility to use Synchron Player with Asio4all, because underway the UR22mkII is a little bit big and heavy

I think here is the problem: ASIO4All is kind of a driver-hack. If it works, fine; if not you are on your own.
I don't know if the devs at VSL can fix this, but these boys are almost wizards, so who knows :D

Have you tried using the Steinberg Low-Latency ASIO driver that is installed with Cubase?

Hi again,

so far I can understand, what you are saying. But the there is another problem, which I cannot understand: if the Asio4All driver is the problem, then I wonder, why the standalone Synchron Player works fine using the same Asio4All driver. And I wonder, why may really many VST instruments (small, and very big) work also fine using the Asio4All driver within or outside Cubase?

Hi,

ASIO4All emulates ASIO for devices that don't support it. I don't think the ASIO4All driver is a problem, but rather the combination of ASIO4All -> your soundcard -> your DAW.
In this configuration there are so many possible combinations and variables, it will be hard, if not impossible, to find what the exact problem is.

So if this setup does not work for you, try using a different audio interface or ASIO driver emulation.

Best, Ben
