  • Multiple Audio Outs from VEP instances

    Hello!

Unfortunately, I can't find the thread anymore where I found this, but I think I read that there might be problems with having too many audio outs from a VEP instance to the DAW. Is that in any way correct or was I dreaming...?

    Thank you!
    Lukas

  • It uses a lot more CPU to return many outs. Try it using only a master out and see.

  • Hmmokay... I wanted to do the mixing in the DAW, but...

So just bounce the tracks and mix the audio?

    What's the difference?

But bouncing the tracks implies having separate Audio Outs, doesn't it? Or what do you mean?

What CPU penalty are we talking about, actually?

    Thanks!

  • If you wish to mix in your DAW & not via VE, and it's too much to throw all your virtual instruments out to the DAW at once... then you could try multiple passes outputting just a handful (or even 2) at a time of your tracks using the discreet available outputs you have. In any case, for sure, you yourself will learn how much re: cpu resources things require, sooner or later. Just go for it!

  • I look at it like this: I enable outs fr. VE Pro according to simultaneous need, ie., stems.
I personally don't need to render stems 'en masse'. Pertaining to "CPU penalty" if you're going to return,  eg. 16 stereo outs, well, try and see how your system deals.

And, the Automation map in VE Pro puts it all in one list per instance. I mix that way, and I find Cubase for example is pretty clunky and time-consuming for this. So I mix in VE Pro essentially.

That said, I do render a fair amount, and commit. One maybe two instruments at a time albeit I tend to render the master with convolution reverb at the same time and gauge that to consolidate it later, something I don't waste much if any time with. If you're in a hurry and need massive stems, that's that; but I would recommend weighing actual needs vs some ideal, as it really does cost to run all those outputs.
