Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a lot of trouble recently when playing any song involving Synchron Player in Cubase Pro.

I'm using the Dimension Strings bank, and on each track I add a different Synchron player-I'm doing like this as I first had this problem with Vienna Ensemble Pro 7, and hoped it would be solved by using intruments tracks instead of midi tracks linked to a rack instrument.

I don't know where this problem comes from, since I bought a year ago an iMac Retina 5K, 27 inches, late 2015. The processor is 4 GhZ Intel Core i7, my Ram has been expanded to 32 Go. My Os is Mojave. I thought I wouldn't have any problem with this configuration. Of course I paid the licence for Cubase Pro, as for the VSL products. When I play a song, it works ok at the beginning, but very soon I can see the audio performance tab getting red...

Could it be a Real Time Audio Performance Problem like in this video  : https://youtu.be/GUsLLEkswzE ?

I should add I have many hard drives through a hub, but my Cubase sessions are on an external drive directly linked at the back of the iMac, just like the SSD drive with the VSL samples.

In case it would be of interest, I also have linked two more screens through the thunderbolt ports at the back of the computer.

It seems the problem is only with Synchron Player, not with Vienna Instruments Pro.

What could I do ? Uf anyone could help it would be great, I'm a professionnal with a lot of work, and this really stops me...

Thanks a lot for your reply

Benjamin

Hi Benjamin,

Sorry to hear about the troubles.

What happens if you deactivate the impulse responses in the mixer and maybe use the non-convolution mixer presets?

Best,
Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for the fast answer.

I have opened each Synchron Player involved in the session, and I opened the little wave sign on the right of the reverb line, then I pressed Bypass bouton. Is that what you recommanded? I'm gonna try to attach a screenshot of it. There's still some work on the audio performance window (I will try to attach it too), but so far no clicks, I'm gonna work a bit more on the track and if problem I will let you know.

Still, that is not very convinient not to be able to use this reverb function, and takes some time to bypass all the players. Isn't there a way, if I'm condemned not to use these reverbs, to call for a preset without all these reverbs activated?

And have you any idea why I have this problem?

If I had the choice now, I think I would go for the Vienna Instruments Pro version of Dimensions Strings (which seems to have a better way of using divisi, which I didn't know when I bought the Synchronized version)...

Thanks,

Benjamin

Hi again,

After 10-15 minutes of work, the Audio Performance gets crazy again, although I bypassed all the reverbs player by player. Attached file...

Best,

Benjamin

Hi Benjamin,

Could you send us your project and a reference to this thread so we can take a deeper look into it?

1) There is no good reason for running Cubase projects from an external drive. I don't want to get in the weeds regarding this, but in your shoes I would correct that. It's a simpler connection from internal and there is no upside to external, unless you ran out of room, but .cpr are not enormous files.

2) many hard drives through a hub - many? For what purpose? I wouldn't run samples through a drive connected via a hub and expect great performance. Once upon a time it was considered de rigeur to use a drive other than the system drive for recording, for handling audio in the pool, on top of streaming samples. SSD obviates all of that.

"many" drives + "hub" (eg., USB 2) are things you want to look at. It's not that you don't have enough power to run the impulses in Synchron and need to cut it way down.

So, yes, what he says in the video is true, it's some device locking the process up.

Thank you, and sorry I had not seen your post before. To answer your two points in one, the reason is a lack of space. Yes, .cpr files are not big, but I also record .wav, which little by little take more room. And VSL samples are not small either. A precision: as I said, the Cubase and the VSL external drives (the VSL being a SSD) are connected directly at the back of the computer, they don't go through the hub, which is only used for two other external drives not invovlved with music (except I put the eLicenser on it). But I will take into consideration what you say, and maybe put on my internal hard drive the Cubase sessions when I'm working on them, this can help.

Though I'm not sure this will solve my problem.

Actually I found a solution to it, and so far it seems like it works: I use Vienna Ensemble Pro.

I had bought it and almost regretted it as I think I prefer to work with Instruments track in Cubase instead of Midi files connected to a rack instrument. It's way more simple (especially in terms of outputs). And in my configuration it works with many occurrences of Vienna Instruments Pro, for instance, with no overload. But it doesn't work with many Synchron Players, too greedy in terms of performances. So in that case Vienna Ensemble Pro (or Vienna Ensemble, I haven't tried it with many Synchron Player in it) can really help.

having your generated audio on another drive is actually traditional.

the difference in running a sizable project in Cubase vs VE Pro can be enormous.

I was running like 7 Synchron Players in the latest project. but it took all 4 buffers on the VEP side.
