  • Seeking Advice on Using VEPro on DAW Computer?

I would like to hear from those that have used VE Pro on the same computer as the DAW. Did you find that performance improved by being able to move plugins and instruments out of the DAW and access them via VE Pro?

I plan to have at least one slave computer running VE Pro, and I am trying to determine if there is justification to purchase an additional licence to run VE PRo on the DAW computer also.

    Thanks!

Yes, dramatically better performing. I've done it Local Host for 6 or 7 yrs. I have done with the more powerful of two machines as slave, and when I abandoned that I didn't see a real difference I could tell. It wasn't enough for a massive fully detailed symphonic project without a lot of rendering anyway. I think having slaves pays for itself at that point, but for me one (8-core 24GB) slave vs the same as Local Host wasn't the difference for me.

  • Thanks for that information.

Question: Should I use the stand-alone or the server if wanting to use along side my DAW?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

Standalone is for use without any DAW, it has his own Audio Engine included.
Server is the version without Audio Engine that can only be used in combination with a host like a DAW.

  • Thanks very much.

  • Civilization 3, approx. how many channels are in your typical project? I ask b/c we're talking about mostly small chamber ensembles for me. I'm currently on a 4-core iMac 21.5" from "mid-2011" with 24GB RAM. My bank account has gone toward VSL instruments & software & instruments & software &... so little is left to upgrade my Mac. I have handfulls of external SATA drives, but everything VSL & DAW is on the iMac internal drive:

VE Pro, VI Pro, MIR 24, Pro Tools 12.8, Sibelius 8.6. So far so good.

    Thanks!

  • it varies a lot. latest project a couple hundred channels. a fair no. of FX. If it's more than a few instruments for me VEP is going to tell on Cubase. One thing is a decoupled server vs Cubase loading it with all it already has on its plate, the separation of processes.... I noticed it in a big way the first time, I had a modest Kontakt multi kind of maxing me out already (Cubase 5.5.3). I do it all on the one internal drive, it seems to me the old ways are not needed today.
