    Hello.

    I am looking at buying my first orchestral library. I plan to write a few epic intros for my charity vlog. So I am looking for big deep strings and brass(Tubas?). Is the Specialized series good for that? What volume? Or any other combo? I am willing to spend 300ish Euro.

    I know chances are high that you are all pro here, but I have to ask anyway. Do the Syncron player use more or less CPU and RAM than Kontakt?

    BTW? Is it true that I need to pay some support fee if my dongle breaks? Is it not enough to pay for a new dongle?

    Hi,

    I would suggest to get the SYNCHRON-ized Special Edition Volume 2. It contains bigger brass ensembles, a Contrabass Tuba and some basic articulations of the appassionata strings. With the educational discount the Volume 1 should also be in your budget, so you have maximal flexibility with the basic orchestral instruments and the beautiful Concert D piano.

    In my experience the Synchron Player is much more performant and stable then Kontakt. The Synchron Player instances share the loaded sample data in RAM, so you can load multiple instances of one instrument and the RAM usage stays the same. Also if you have an SSD or even an NVMe SSD you can configure the Synchron player, to load less data into RAM.

    If your dongle breaks and it is within warranty, you will get a free replacement without any fees. If it breaks after the warranty, you have to pay a small process fee.

    Ben, apart for the eLicenser, aren't also the licenses to be repurchased for 50% of the full price? This, if you don't have the protection plan?

    Well, I am sadly pretty sure educational can't apply for me. I am just a middle aged hobby composer looking to put some score to my charity vlogs.

    If your input on the Synchron player is true that sounds good.

    Something missing from the Vienna Smart Orchestra product page is, maybe, a purely orchestral epic-type demo. While this is a reduced-set orchestral library, I would believe it can do a reasonably good work in that style. In other words: the available demos are a bit too 'sophisticate', and are missing some of that impressive raw power usually liked by trailer composers.
