  • Thunderbolt audio interface external SSD

    Hello,

Maybe someone is willing to assist on this (as I cannot trace anything specific on it in the forums).

A long trip ahead so I will switch to a Windows laptop for VSL (woodwinds, recorders, solo strings, chamber orechestra, some brass instruments) and Cubase 10, not very large templates (say 20 instruments).

    Questions are:

What audio interface is possible (or needed), and is Thunderbolt necessary for that (looking at i.e. Apollo Twin USB or Thunderbolt, or Apollo Arrow)?

How much working memory is needed using Thunderbolt 3 for external SSD's, or does USB3 also suffice for that ?

    thanks in advance,

    Gerard

    Hello Gerard,

I'm afraid it all depends on your expectations... You might also get away without a soundcard, if you are using ASIO drivers and such small templates. Personally, I'd also consider RME as a compact soundcard.

You will be fine with USB 3, but of course the Thunderbolt 3 will provide more performance (might not be necessary for your expectations... I'd say you are safe with 16 GB and SSD drives.

Hope that helps a little, maybe others will chime in ðŸ˜Š

    Best,
    Paul

  • Paul,

Thanks for the response. I'll go for the ssd drives and skip searching for Thunderbolt, since that would be sufficient performance (as I understand from your response),

    regards,
