Hey folks,
While I've been debugging pops/clicks in my setup (some details below), I noticed a curious thing: My VEPro server, which exclusively is hosting VST instruments and no effects, is somehow receiving a lot of data.
Looking at Windows task manager or Resource Monitor, I see that each of my 8 VEPro instances (when idle) are receiving about 1Mbps of data. When playing an instrument, it'll *send* 3-4Mbps, but that's not surprising. The plugin on the client is configured with 0 audio input channels, so I can't think what all that data would be.
Is that normal, otherwise a red herring, or a lead worth chasing?
Some details below:
Client:
* i7 8700k CPU 32GB DDR4 RAM
* Typical CPU load < 20%
* RME RayDAT PCIE audio interface
* Win 10 Pro
* Cubase 10 Pro
Server machine:
* i7 7700k 64GB DDR4 RAM Samsung 960 Pro M2 SSD
* Typical CPU load < 10%.
* Win 10 Pro
* VEPro 7. 8 instances, ~36GB RAM
* All plugins are Kontakt 5 right now
Some performance notes:
* Client server are connected by GigE. This is on a shared network, but the network is fairly uncontended.
* Have run latencymon on both machines and corrected a few issues (e.g. disabling some USB devices, switching from NVidia to AMD gfx card) to get both consistently green.
