  • Stuck notes with Finale & VE Pro 4

This is odd. I suddenly get A LOT of stuck notes in a file I'm working on in Finale (26). It's a large piece for orchestra, soprano, baritonsolo and choir (SATB). A big score with approx 30 staves.

I use VE PRO (4) as a standalone host and send all midi from Finale via IAC buses. I've been using this setup for more than 10 years now and written really big orchestral stuff (30-40 staves) and I have rarely had any problems with stuck notes before.

The strange thing is that this is a piece with 7 movements and so far I have only had problems with stuck notes in one of them. It's getting worse in the section near the climax in this file. And when I start a session I have less problems. But the longer I work on this file the more stuck notes I get. At the moment I can barely use playback at all on this file. Annoying.

Any ideas what I could do to solve this?

My setup is iMac Retina 27" (late 2014) 4Ghz i7, 24 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD

VE PRO 4, Only VSL libraries, Vienna suite (I use the convolution reverb), Finale 26

  • Hello Albert!

My guess is that you are either overstraining your computer or the MIDI standard. I would try to use the VE Pro plugin and VE Pro Server instead of using IAC buses.

  • Hi Andi,

thanks for prompt reply. I will try that.

I just wonder, do the solo voices and the choir library strain my computer more compared to other instruments?

  • Hello Albert!

It mainly depends on the number of samples streamed and effects to be calculated at the same time and not what kind of samples they are.

    Best,
