  • VEP instruments consuming significant CPU in cubase despite connected VEP instances being disabled

I have 60 instrument tracks in cubase, each with an instance of the Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 (VST3) instrument plugin connected to 60 invidivual instances in a single VEP Pro Server on the same machine.

The CPU usage reported in Cubase is hovering around 50% on my machine even with all 60 VEP Server instances disabled.

If I deactivate the instrument plugins in cubase, CPU usage drops right down.

My question is why are the instrument plugins using so much CPU when activated but connected to disabled instances of VEP?

It would be really nice to setup a template like this where CPU can be kept minimal when VEP server instances are disabled. Then instrument tracks could be activated, when necessary by enabling the VEP instance only. (rather than having to deactivate/activate the instrument plugin in cubase as well which is a pain (this function cant be automated).

    Thanks,

    Stuart
