  • Backing tracks for operatic concerts

    This is a general query

My wife and I give operatic concerts, and have recently started giving concerts to pre-recorded music. These have been quite successful, but we suffer from fairly limited availability of material - not least of opera duets.

Unfortunately, we don't see ourselves diving into VSL and producing our own tracks (one should know one's limitations), but we would love to work with people who can.

I can imagine that operatic repertoire is not the first thing that comes to mind, since singing is hard to synthesize, so we could offer to contribute actual opera singing, and feedback/advice from professional singers and teachers.

We appreciate the amount of work that goes into creating a faithful orchestration, so this is roughly what we feel that we could offer in return for the production, and our right to use in live concert and recording:

    • Compensation for the up-front work: perhaps not sufficient, but at least in the order of €100-200, negotiable depending on size and ambition level of the work. We would pay more if we could, but this is largely a labor of love.
    • Compensation per performance (negotiated)
    • We record vocal tracks that can be used for demo purposes
    • The producer retains full rights to sell or give away to others

We are tenor and soprano, but we also belong to a network of singers, some some of whom sing at larger opera houses, nationally and internationally.

If this message should rather be posted somewhere else, we apologize and would be thankful for instruction.

    Regards,
Ulf Wiger, computer engineer, operatic tenor
