  • VSL Product Choice Recommendation

    Hi All,

I am doing training in Logic Pro X and I will be producing a "recording" of Pachelbel's Canon in D as an assignment piece. I am contemplating using a VSL product for the best sounds, but I don't know which one to choose. One of my colleagues has recommended VSL, but he doesn't use Logic.

Can anyone suggest a suitable option for a first time purchase?

Is there any other software/ management issue I should be aware of for working with Logic Pro X?

    Thanks

  • First of all, what's your budget?

    Secondly,

Do you want to work "out of the box?" Then look into the Synchron Series.  It's quicker and easier as you basically just plug and play but your options are severely limited.  If it doesn't sound the way you think it should then there isn't much you can do to about it.  It might suffice for Pachelbel's Canon in D however.

Or do you want much more flexibility? Look into VI, Dimension, and the SE series with VI Pro.  With VI you can shape and mold the compositions to your liking but, if you're new to VSL, there is a learning curve that can be frustrating.

A Special Edition (SE) collection might work just as well with the Canon in D espeically if you're on a tight budget.

  • Fognozzle,

Logic X user here.  How are you orchestrating your arrangement?  Strings?  Winds?  Mixed?

If you need a lot of different instruments, I would go with Synchronized Special Edition 1 and 1+.

If you are just going with a string orchestra, you should get the Dimension Strings... Synchronized or Vienna Instruments versions.  Both are great.

Starting out, whatever you choose, it may seem overwhelming.  Really dig into the videos on this site and on their Youtube BEFORE you start trying to program/record.  And come to the forum if you have questions you can't figure out.
