  • Hello,Yikes! How do I get VI Pro and VE Pro to Recognize Where the Samples Are?

I recently replace a Windows 7 computer with a new machine running Windows 10.  I took the 3 SSD drives out of the old computer and put them into the new one.  The D and E drives contain all of my samples, the entire VSL Cube, and numerous other VSL libraries.

VE Pro and VI Pro do not know where the samples are located.  I am hoping I don't have to download them all over again, that will take a very long time, and it seems reduntant since all the samples are already paid for, licensed and residing on the D and E drives.

There used to be a utility to tell VI and VE which drive and folders the samples are located on.  But I don't think that is available anymore.   Would much appreciate is someone could tell me how to get VI and VE to recognize where the samples are!

    Thanks,

    Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

After you have installed Vienna Instruments, open the Directory Manager and Drag'n'Drop the folder in which the samples are stored from the Windows Explorer into the Directory Manager.

Where to find the Directory Manager: https://www.vsl.info/manuals/vienna-instruments/installation#installed-files

  • Thanks Ben!  I couldn't remember the Directory Manager as it's been years since I last had to use it. It solved the issue.

I have another issue to contend with.  For years I've connected my DAW and my slave (VSL) computer via a program called MIDI over LAN.  But I don't think it's fully compatible with Windows 10.  If I switch to networking my two computers using the VSL protocol, do I need 2 USB dongles?   All my VSL samples are on my slave computer, not on my DAW.

    Thanks!

    Jerry

    Hi Jerry,

If you are switching to VE Pro and have all your samples on your slave computer, you will need only 1 ViennaKey (on your slave computer).

The VE Pro PLUG-IN that connects to your VE Pro Servers from your sequencer does not need a license to run.

You can check out the system with a demo license anytime.
