    Hi all,

    I'm still learning, but anyone can help me how to choose among these? Strings -Chamber, Appassionata, Orchestra?

    All i know is Chamber is less instrument than let's say Orchestra, someone might say (I'm wrong)

    I'm not experienced but i can clearly hear the distrinction among them, also in know some would say it depends on my taste and there is no wrong or right about them but,

    what i'm asking, is there a way to make a better choice when choosing one of these variations vs others when we try to play a song? also i'm asking about songs played already by someone, so i'm not composing from scratch.

    Which is your composing style? Deciding for only one of the libraries may also depend on that.

    Classical and soundtrack for now.

    Maybe still a bit too broad as categories. However, Orchestral Strings are the library with more articulations, and they are the right, average size for any type of orchestra. Chamber Strings sound more delicate and smaller. While they are not big enough for romantic orchestra, they may work well for the modern cinema 'neo-romantic' movement. They are also the right size for Mozart and Baroque.

    Appassionata is not very versatile, but are good for very emotional music. I wouldn't want them as the only strings library. Dimension Strings are an alternative to Chamber Strings, and would let you create your own ensemble, goin from very intimate to chamber-sized. Doubling them can create a very good full-orchestra sound, but you need some tricks to avoid phasing from doubling. And they need much more CPU.

    Be sure to read the list of articulations, because some important ones (like trills and dynamics, or sul pont or con sord) are not in all the libraries.

    I wasn't not sure if i can double or tripple but now you encouraged me.

    and let me clarify this, it is using the same track and duplicate it to 2 or 3 or more using the same libarary, correct?

    I'm suprised you don't like the Appassionata, it looks like that i like to use them more than Chamber.

    Duplicating the Chamber Strings requires a trick consisting in detuning one of the instances by one or two semitones, and placing them in different points on the stage with pan+reverb (or MIR). 2 x Chamber Strings is however ≠ Orchestral Strings. It will not sound as twice the instruments, but thicker than Chamber Strings alone. you will get divisi by using the two groups separately.

    I've not said that I don't like Appassioata, but that they are not as versatile as the other libraries. They ha e less articulations, and a sound that is never too neutral.

    Appassionata Strings were designed with film scores in mind.  The larger ensemble creates that big lush string sound characterisitc of Hollywood film scores.  However, it is also ideal for Romantic period Classical as well, but if your going to get App Strings you're probably going to want Ejpic Horns and Fanfare Trumpets with it eventually.

    What I like about Chamber Strings is you can use them for Baroque and Neo-Classical stylings and it works great for all Pop music genres as well.
