  • Freedom - pop song with VSL Dimension strings

Hi there everyone. I don't post here often. I have struggled with my use of VSL for some time. Getting them to sound good and real. But I tried them on a pop song that I wrote and i am relatively happy with the results. VSL is a truly superb sounding product indeed. Any feedback on my use of the strings and how I could make them better welcome.

    Freedom song

  • As someone who started in the Pop world It's refreshing to hear a song that isn't a relationship song or the ubiquitous "Love ballad." Also it's nice to hear an arrangement that can stand on its own. Having said that, "Freedom" sounds like an unmastered product. Are you eq'ing your tracks? You have a lot going on and everything is fighting for the same sonic real estate. The bass is inconsistent and muddy. At the very least put a hi pass eq on it or put a multiband to rein in some of that punchiness. Also the kick drum is sometimes buried in the mix or choked out by that bass. Either side chain compress it or parallel compress to give it some energy and presence. Also, a little delay goes a long way especially in the vocals. Just a few tips
