  • Clone or just copy data to a new Drive?

    I need some help...

I have 2 TB barracuda disk drives with over 1.8TB of Vienna libraries on both drives. .  I have 2 new  SSD 2 TB drives.  I have formatted the new drives NTFS….. Should I clone the drives or just copy the samples.  I am told that I should  clone the drives. What is the advantage to cloning?  I guess it is too much data to copy over for the Disk drive.. could cause errors..…   Acronis software wants $60.00 for their cloning software.!!! There is free software out there, but which one should i get?? This would be on a PC.  So, should I clone the drives and if so… what software should i use or does it matter at all…. Any thoughts..

    Thanks

  • Just copy to the new drive.

  • If you are just going to store sample libraries on your new SSD drives, you can just copy the data to them, and they will work fine.

"Cloning" is generally used for making an exact copy of a drive with an OS and appications installed on it. For example, if you were going to replace your starttup drive with with an SSD, then cloning it would be the way to go. There is no reason to do this if you are just copying data on to new drves.

  • Thanks.... Since I had the cloning program... and since ( from the replies)  it really does not matter, clone or copy.. I just cloned the drives... ... So far, it worked...  Thanks for the answers...
