  • Garbled Sound from Vienna server ethernet cable

I have a problem that i can’t figure out .. I have my main computer MAC Pro using Pro Tools containing all my MIDI data sessions.  I have a PC computer  running all Vienna libraries.  I connect using the Vienna Ensemble Server on my MAC using the instrument channel.  Session comes up on the server PC.  The sound is now garbled and distorted. If I only add a couple of channels the sound is now clear,  as I add  instruments it starts up.  I am not over loading the channels .. In fact I lowered  everything to make sure… I do use a D-Link ethernet switch box that has the internet, PC, MAC, and my D command connections.  I am using CAT 5 cable.  I cannot isolate the problem because i need that box to communicate to my console.  I have never had this problem before.  The only change i did on the PC was exchange 2 Barracuda drives for 2 SSD drives.  Could I use a sound card instead of going into the ethernet cable for audio… how is this done?  Is using the ethernet cable for audio the right way to go?  Could the switch box be causing this?  Support says to upgrade to CAT6 … O.K.that’s easy, but i don’t think that will fix this problem.   How about tweaking  the PC perhaps BIOS? any suggestions ...
    I’m lost….

  • By "garbled" do you mean the audio is distorted or clipping? Or does it sound like something else?

I ask because because this happened after you swaped your drives for SSDs.

To start with, I'd put your old drives back into your PC and see if the problem goes away.

  • Thank you for the replay

I was afraid someone would say that…  But before I do that Sweetwater’s tech guy dug into the computer  yesterday and wanted me to replace the on board battery and set the BIOS to their settings.  This did not help.  I will schedule another session with him.
