Hello everybody,

We just uploaded a brand-new version of our Synchron Player, as always with bug-fixes, but most importantly:

Time-Stretching is now available for ALL instruments you can load in your Synchron Player: Synchron Series, SY-ized Special Editions, Smart products and of course the Big Bang Orchestra Series.

Learn more in our online Synchron Player Manual and in the video walkthroughs - barely touching the surface there, and just in time for the Big Bang Orchestra: Capricorn with its incredible symphonic riffs/loops!

Features at a glance:

  • Real-time rendering and adaptation (yes, tempo-ramps are possible)
  • Originally recorded tempo is detected wherever possible
  • Synchronize your runs, repetitions and loops with one click
  • Adjust the duration of your short notes and dynamics
  • Great sounddesign possibilities (don't forget the built-in FX plug-ins!!)

Library Updates for your Big Bang Orchestra Series are also available, with Timestretching Presets!

Enjoy!!

Hi Paul,

I remember when the Synchron FX Strings came out some people were joking when you mentioned in the Promovideo that the possibilities are "endless".

From now on no one will even think about seeing a joke in that ... This Feature changes the Game totally!!

WOW!!

Big Smile and a BIG thank you to the crew!

Wow..this is a game changer for the player :-) Congrats!

Just another question, I'm getting maximal 156mb/s reading speeds within the player (latest update), but I'm running libraries from a RAID0 3x SSDs via Thunderbolt 2 connected to Mac Pro 2013. Usually reading speed goes over 1000mb/s with blackmagic's disk test. I've also tried on another NVME SSD disk via USB3 and I always get max around 150mb/s.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

It may be that the drives were doing other things during speed test, so the result is not correct.
You can change the preload size manually and if there are no drop-outs everything is fine.

Best, Ben

The built-in disk speed testing uses a single-thread random access pattern at 64kB and 4kB block sizes. This will produce a speed FAR lower than a sequential disk speed test will do, but is more accurate in determining the drive's capability for sample streaming.

I'm using an Optane drive for sample streaming myself, which will give ~1000MB/s for 64k block sizes. This is pretty much as fast as you can get.

FWIW: I get around 630 MB/s from my quite mundane Samsung EVO 830 and 850 devices (both SATA and eSATA).

Thanks for replying. I understand that built-in speed test might show lower speeds, but this is quite low in my case. Even on internal apple SSD system drive (APFS) I get 123MB/s. And drives are not in use during testing the speed. The other drives are MacOS Extended Journaled and I'm on High Sierra.

As long I can manually set up preload size and this doesn't effect playability or loading time, I'm ok with it.

Thanks!

Paul - I kow you said Synchron Player time-stretching is not recommended right now for legato presets, but I did try it anyway with Synchron Strings and allows us to vary the speed of the legato transitions. It makes the library so much more useful, customizable, and therefore expressive. Here's hoping you find a way to get this to work in the legato presets.

Thanks--

I agree very much with Garylionelli. I'm experimenting with the time-stretch tool in the SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings. And I experience the same. I can get a smoother flow in a rather slow melody. And to my own surprise I don't feel a need to add some solo strings or dimensions strings players to the chamber strings to avoid a kind of "one instrument" feeling, where the instrument is built up with six violins. (Sorry for the perhaps little strange explanation, but I don't know how to explain this in another way... I hope you understand it.)For shorter staccato's and a more expressive trill it works fine.I'm glad that everytime your team improves the software! It's a pleasure to work with it and experiment.
