The question isn't really Cubase specific as the same concepts would apply with Logic, Pro Tools or any other modern DAW, but for reference I'm using Cubase 10.5.
Not counting the years of trumpet in school, I'm largely a rock band / guitarist by heritage. However, I've recently been working on keyboard chops so that I can play orchestral music instead of programming it.
When I have to stop playing music and go back and forth fooling around with program changes, key switches or other such things it's a real buzz kill and takes me out of the creative zone. So, I'm hoping to create a multi-track template with all the basic instrumentation set up, pointed to the plugin and muted, ready to go.
The workflow I prefer is to focus on playing / recording, and then come back in a separate pass to do all the computer tweaking once I have the performances done. I see lots of composers setting up Cubase templates with hundreds of tracks, each instrument on ready alert, and that appeals to me as I can just unmute an instrument / section and continue playing.
Are there any concerns about running enough instances of the Synchron player loaded with Smart Orchestra + XP to make a template like this work? I'm running Windows 10 / 2.3 ghz Xeon with 24 gigs memory, which has been strong enough for the abuse I've subjected it to thus far.
I'd be grateful for any advice you might have for setting up a comprehensive orchestral template for this sort of scenario.
