  • MAJOR CPU issues, along with constant crashing. PLEASE HELP

So. I have a cMP, 2x6 core 3.33g, with 128 GB of RAM/ Everything is on an SSD (4TB of 860 qvo + dedicated 512 SSD fpr boot).

    I am running VEP7 on 10.11.6

My first issue was my session not loading after seeing a converting dialouge box. I have to do a full restart, since it won't let me force quit my session and re-open VEP. Todays issue is a major CPU overload. Im talking 1,800% CPU usage for VEP in Activity Monitor, and completely garbled audio (with a 512 buffer setting in Cubase 8.5) with high 80s fluctuating up to high 90s CPU usage in VEPs bottom right indicator. I am using Kontakt 6, and Spitfires BBC plug-in. Nothing else. Most of my libraries are spitfire, but they all use Kontakt 6. It was reccomended that I take out the BBC plug and see if that fixes my issue. I'm currently only sitting at 50GB worth of samples (after taking away ~10 from BBCs instances) and my CPU useage is stuck in the high 90s. I try to add another Kontakt plug-in. And now it crashes without fail, every single time. I have no clue what the hell is going on, why its being such a hog, and why its ramping up this usage and crashing all the time. Everyhitng is up to date. I checked the compatibility and 7 should be running no problem on my version of OSX. I have my thread count set to 24 for a single instance since I just use one. My RAM is running at 1333M. I have eveeryhitng hard wired with a static IP. This is probably the 15th time Ive had to rebuild a template since everything has been so buggy. I am ready to toss this shit out of the window. If someone can please give some guidance on how to trouble shoot (I can't even add another plug in!) that would be greatful. I hope I've given all needed info.

  • Hi,

In Activity Monitor what are the memory values when playing ? and crashing ?

How much ram is used ?

Can you change the preoload buffer size ?

Did you post your problem on the Spitfire Site ?

Did you try not using VEP ?

  • Hi. Thanks so much for the response.

Do you mean the CPU usage numbers? Memory values don't change.

Ram used: 62.51GB by VEP and 69.91GB total usage.

I am able to change the preload buffer size. I'm assuming you suggest increasing it? (first instrument I check is 60MB). While I am tempted to increase it for everything, I feel like I shouldnt be getting these spikes since I'm not running the most intensive library as it is?

Just doing this now. Good idea!

I can't not use VEP. My host computer is a 2012 Mac Mini, and I am super limited on RAM.

  • Hello

Can you give me exactly your configuration

    Best

  • Sorry for the delay!

    OSX 10.11.6

    2009 MP (4,1 flashed to 5,1)

    2x 3.33 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon

    128GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC

2x2TB 960 QVO SSD storage for all samples through PCI + 500GB SSD for boot and software on PCI

With my template loaded but not connected to Cubase on my Mac Mini:

55.92 GB of memory used (1,609 threads)

    CPU sitting at 4.3%

Once I connect it jumps to 55-60% (512 buffer in cubase)

All systems runnig static IP through ethernet

     Hopefully thats everything!

  • hello

If you connect SSD on your Macpro you are limited by the PCI II speed, you need to add a PCI III interface and connect your SSD on it , then you will obtain the full speed of your SSD.

When you connect your your MacMini to your Mac pro

you lauch something to play until you get problem

then you go in activity monitor /memory and you note and report the values in the cartridge

  • Yep, got my SSD's on PCI cards.

So, sounds like I have to rebuild my template from scratch? Are you able to give a rough estimate of what the MP can handle for a normal system? Im pretty dissapointed I have more than half my RAM unused and I am maxing out on CPU usage. I will do what you say, but to what extent can these machines be pushed?

    thanks so much.

  • give me the figures of the activity monitor/memory

  • I cannot see anything wrong, did you play this song before making the screen copy ?

  • Thanks for checking those out.

No, this is just sitting idle. If I play a few instruments at the same time I get an overload and the audio is garbled.  I was suggested to change the pre-load buffer rate. I set it to max. That brought my RAM usage to 100 GB but my CPU is pinned at 97% (which is the opposite effect that change is supposed to have?)

  • If you want I continue to help you do what I have ask.

I need the figures after the overload message

  • I don't get an actual overload message. But the audio is unintelligible. I will boot it up and get those right now! Thanks for your patience.

  • https://puu.sh/Fu4Hq/c6401c5abb.png   CPU usage. With current setting for pre-load buffer maxed.

https://puu.sh/Fu4Fe/8873130a63.png  Are the libraries playing. Mostly soniccoture and Spitfires Albion NEO

    Thanks

  • Hey Bryan. Have you had any luck figuring something out with this? I'm having similar CPU overload issues.

  • I need also the Memory values

  • What are you running? I think my probblem is BBC. I took it off my one template, put it by itself onto another. it took about 40-50% of CPU usage. I think it isn't very well optimized. I had a friend with a similar issue to mine but with Junkie XLs brass library.

  • I no longer have this tempalte set up the same way. I don't think sending values of my current template will help solve the issue. It seems like its the Spitfires BBC plug in at this point. Thank you for your help though .

  • The value of Memory in the Activity Monitor are very important !

It could show the problem !
