  • VSL access for students off campus during the COVID-19 crisis

I notice a lot of music software companies are giving free off-campus access to their software products for a limited period as students cannot access the software on their campuses anymore becaause they are shut due to the virus crisis and will be for some time. This comes at a time when students are nearing the comepletion of their major projects and thus have been left high and dry in mant case.

I wonder if VSL would be minded to do this? I teach at a university and this is already causing big problems for us.

  • hello Northfield,
as far as i can see there are no products registered to the account you're posting with. in case you're finding yourself in a special situation i'd ask you to email support@vsl.co.at mentioning the licensee you are referring to and describing how you think we can help you out.

  • Thanks for thr reply though it isn't for me as I explained. It is for the students at the university I work at (University of Huddersfield, UK) and we have VSL licensed software there that they use on campus. I will contact the email you suggest with details of that.

  • you're welcome - i was assuming you are also affected since you wrote " ... a problem for us".
every licensee can access the software and library downloads from everywhere after successfully authenticating on the VSL WebSite. hopefully the eLicenser(s) did not remain at the campus ...

  • Trouble is that students themsleves are not licencees they just use the software on campus, so the issue is how to get them access off campus via the university's licence which as far as I know does not extend off campus. Normally this is not an issue bceasue students work in our campus studios but of coures these are not normal times.

  • i'm almost sure our support will find a reasonable solution ...

  • Thanks. I'm looking into our university account details and will then contact support.

  • Your campuses IT department could configure the VSL/music computers for remote acess. This way you and your student's could log onto and use the computers from home.

If you don't know how to properly set this up your self, I'd HIGHLY recommend your IT staff configure it for you, so that only you and your students can acess the computer(s). Also, if you don't have anti-virus software on your music computers, then have IT install it because it will have to be connected to the network.

    Hope this helps!
