    Hi folks,

    here's a live coding performance for quintet with piano. Naturally, it is raw from Opusmodus, not so clean and refined as a composition but i've got lot of fun to program and perform this gig !

    You took me back to my student years - although that was a few decades ago, when the programming was not as user-friendly as it is today, if it is at all.

    I never knew of OpusModus, and wonder whether you have had any experience with Symbolic Composer, which is the platform OM reminded me of, and which is also LISP based. If so, how would you compare the two?

    Hi Errikos,

    Opusmodus is a descendant and very similar to symbolic composer in many aspect but much more powerful.

    The main points are the ability to output directly scores you can export later via MusicXML and also an internal

    scripting language called OMN for "Opus Modus Notation" allow you to script directly the music, even without any algorithm.

    With score snippet, preview and OMN notation, you see score and ear always what you do in real time and it is far less abstract than symbolic composer and much closer to writing music manually, but with a powerful tool.

    Thanks for replying Stéphane,

    It's good to hear that OpusModus is a progeny of Symbolic Composer, and indeed, the ability to monitor notation and sound in real time is a great advantage. I just hope that when you say that this platform is not as abstract as the older one doesn't mean that you cannot program in advance model-algorithms for more harmonically and rhythmically complex, advanced/academic computer composition.

    Hi Errikos,

    when i've said abstract, it was not exactly what i want to say because my english is very deficient and limited.

    Opusmodus was mainly made for high level of abstraction and was made with lot of people and researcher from University and was specially designed to reach the kind of abstraction you speak (advanced/academic complexity).

    It is made for parametric composition and algorithmic manipulation, generation and processing of musical events. 

    When i said abstract, i speak about the fact to be able to get the musical notation always available.
