  • Advice on VE Pro 7 workflow and instrument distribution for 2 computer set-up

    Hello,

I am making the jump to a multi-computer system.  My main MASTER computer is a windows 10, 3.5Ghz, 32GB RAM system (running Cubase Pro 10.5).  I will be adding a SLAVE server - dell poweredge R720 Windows 2016 server, 2x3.5ghz, 128GB RAM (with lots of space for additional RAM expansion).

I have two VE Pro licenses and 2 eLicenser dongles. I also have ONE MIR Pro installation (with all of the room packs).

Most of my non-VSL instrument libraries come with 2 (or more) licenses (spitfire, 8DIO, Spectrasonics, Toontrack, etc...) - so I can have access to these simultaneously on both the MASTER and SLAVE.  VSL and EastWest seem to only offer single license use (although you can transfer the license back and forth for use on one machine or the other - but you can never have both machines using the license at the same time - please correct me if I am wrong about this).

So it seems I have to consider how to distribute my libraries based both their RAM needs and their license situations.  Obviously I have much more RAM power on the server - so a lot of the libraries are going to need to run from there.  My concern is what the workflow looks like if I need to open and tweak plugins running on VE Pro 7 instances on the server.  Will I need to keep a remote desktop connection running so that I can access and modulate things on the server on the fly as needed?  If this is how it is done - is it at all cumbersome, or is it just another window I can have open on my MASTER monitor?

Another conundrum is that I only have one copy of MIR Pro and the roompacks - so that can only be on one computer.  If I put it on the SLAVE server I presume I would not be able to use it on my MASTER, so could not utilize the plugin version within my DAW - but if I put it on the MASTER, I will be unable to use it in the VE Pro 7 instances running on the server.  My hunch is that I will need to put it on my MASTER, and just use it either as a DAW plugin, or find some creative way to route things from my server instruments, through my DAW to VE Pro 7 on the master.  How are other people using multi-computer systems handling VE Pro, MIR Pro, and libraries with single computer licenses?

Thanks in advance for any advice on these items - or it you have anything you want to alert me to look out for as I connect and populate the server.

    -Preston

  • The MirPro licensing issue is a hassle for sure.  its one of the reasons I am avoiding adding a VePro slave.

The only solution is to bring all instruments back from VePro to your DAW individually and host MirPro in your Master DAW so that you can use just the one license on that machine.  Bringing so many channels of audio back to your DAW does add network performance concerns, but it is what it is.
