  • Smart Orchestra Inspiration during Isolation

    Hi everyone,

I sincerely hope you're all ok and maintaining your 'sanity' during this trying time.

It certainly has been a time of innovative creativity and the web is filled with new works and creations in a variety of fields and genres. I wanted to add to this with something that I put together with the VSL Smart Orchestra mainly. It does include a couple of other non VSL instruments but the bulk of it is the Smart Orchestra XP.

It came out of a desire to delve further into the Smart Orchestra and how I could manipulate the components to create an authentic orchestral body of music. I think it has done well and highlights just how good the VSL audio sample libraries really are.

I called it "A New Beginning" (unsurprisingly) and wanted to share it with the VSL community. It was put together in Cubase and also makes use of the East West Steinway D. The drums and bass are from Reason Suite and the bells come off the KORG M1.

It's on SoundCloud at A New Beginning - A Covid19 Inspiration and I hope it brings a sense of calm and hope for a brighter start when things begin to get back to a somewhat normal way fo life.

    Regards to you all xx

  • Hello brendanlynch and thank you very much for the beautiful music!!

Far too seldom we hear such music with VSL, but VSL strings are also suitable for light music. The SMART-Orchestra seems to be a really great library, with which you can quickly reach your goal and which has a great sound. Congratulations again!

Nevertheless, something has disturbed me a little bit:  I wish the melody strings weren't just so extreme left. (In headphones this is almost annoying). A trick is, should there be a second string voice, to play it on the right. This also gives a nice stereo effect. You can also play this second voice with the first violins. If these cannot be brought to the right side, you can use a plug-in to swap the channels... Maybe you have to read out the voice as an audio file and add it like this.

    With kind regards

    Beat
